Lavender smiled shyly. She missed the word “confess” which would have changed her perception of Fleur’s comments. “Yeah. I am sure I am not the only student with a crush on you.” She blushed furiously. Lavender had to imagine that almost ever boy, and quite a few girls, in the school had a crush on Fleur.
Smiling, Lavender nodded graciously at Fleur’s compliment. “Well, I don’t know if I could compete with a beautiful French girl. But, thank you.” Her smile turned into a grin.
Her smile turned to a frown. “That must have been…hard. To have it stop like that.” Lavender was afraid that Fleur was hinting of things to come. Maybe Fleur though it was fun to flirt with a student, but she wouldn’t let it be anything more than that.
“Oh Merlin!” Lavender laughed nervously. “Yes. That was me. I got this mad idea to ask you to the Yule Ball.” She shook her head, remembering back and thinking how silly she had been. People would have lost their minds if they saw two girls go to the ball together.
