Katie wrapped her arms around Lucy and hugged her tightly. The feel of the smaller girl against her was blissful. She looked around their tiny flat and tried not to be overwhelmed but the sadness she felt. They had found a place to live together and be together. But, this threatened all they had tried to build.
"How did this happen?" she choked out. Katie was supposed to be playing for the Harpies and making good money and having fun. She was supposed to be coming home to Lucy all tired and dirty and falling into her arms and their bed. How did it go so wrong?
"I don't see how," Katie confessed.
Absently, she reached up and starting stroking the dark hair she loved to much. Even with all that was going on, she found that she was having thoughts that were...quite distracting. Maybe she was just seeking an escape but she couldn't help it.
