Katie tried to get her emotions in check when she heard Lucy walking over the hardwood floors. Their flat was warm but not unpleasntly so. Seeing Lucy's bare feet, Katie smiled in spite of all the terrible things that were happening and the awful thing she felt she had to do.
"Hi," she greeted Lucy as she did a poor job of hiding her pain. "I am all right." Katie really was a terrible liar. She sighed and flopped down on their second hand couch. Katie's head fell back and she stared at the ceiling. She couldn't even bring herself to look at Lucy.
"It seems the Hapries can't draft me," Katie said, misery lacing her tone. "The league has barred Muggleborns and, since I made no effort to hide it, everyone knows I am one. My owner seemed upset about it but he couldn't do anything about it."
