“Heidi!” Tracey screamed when she saw the punch connect with her cheek. Her eyes instantly filled with tears as she worried if she might be hurt. Then, suddenly, Heidi was going after him with great ferocity.
Goyle’s nose exploded in a spray of blood. He staggered back and roared with anger. There was a mixture of surprise, laughs and other mutterings. He started to charge at Heidi again but Crabbe pulled him back.
Seeing Professor Hagrid approaching, Goyle glared at them. “You better not come back to Slytherin next year,” he spat at Tracey. “You disgusting dyke cow!” Turning to Heidi, he added, “And you stupid bint, I’ll see you next year.” Then he was gone.
Tracey pulled Heidi onto the train. Her eyes were still a little glassy. “Are you all right?” she asked, reaching for but not touching her red cheek. She felt so bad about what had happened but she felt so touched that she had defended her like that.
“Can we…get a cabin to ourselves?” Tracey asked softly. “And bar the door?” she added with an exasperated laugh.
