As Katie confessed about her arms, Lucy frowned in worry. "Did you let the doctor know that?" When the doctor had been in here earlier, she had tuned it out because she was still scolding herself for almost letting slip her feelings for Katie.
Letting Katie fully explain everything, Lucy listened in silence, nodding at the appropriate times, taking it all in. Her hope swelled with each word Katie spoke. When she admitted that she was falling for her, Lucy broke into a soft smile.
ONce Katie was done, Lucy quickly accioed a chair over next to Katie's bedside so she could sit while she answered Katie's confession with one of her own. Sitting down, she drew in a deep breath as she toyed with the sheets on Katie's bed. The beginning of the speech was the same as what she had said earlier.
"When...when you first came here, you weren't waking up. They didn't know if you would." Lucy drew in a shaky breath as she remembered. "All I could do was sit here and watch you and worry. And...and all I could think of was..." she drew in a deep breath.
"What if she dies. What if she dies never knowing that I loved her?"
Lucy's voice was shaky again at the memory as she looked up, her bright blue eyes shining with love and unshed tears. "I...I've fallen for you Katie. I knew I shouldn't have, you were with GInny and I had no right, but there's an old Italian proverb, L'amore domina senza regole. Love rules without rule. I couldn't help it, I fell and I fell hard."
Lucy was italian, when they fell, they only fell hard. She had never been one for traditions and the traditional lifestyle. But a real relationship with Katie - that she found very very appealing.
