Penny laughed lightly. "Well, I must confess, that was the idea." Gently, she threaded her arm through Jessica's as they walked. It was one of those gestures that was ambiguous enough as to not draw too much attention. Though, the streets were pretty barren now.
"I think you would be a bit surprised then," Penny said, her voice hinting at a rare moment of bitterness. "We were just…not compatible." Penny was unsure how much she should say. "I have a lot of things in my life and many are important to me. However, none can be more important than Orla," she told Jessica.
Looking to Jessica, she feared her reaction. Would she be another that demanded she be put ahead of Orla in Penny's life?
"I couldn't ignore my responsibilities to my daughter and go trotting about the globe, from this party to that, with Gwenog. She isn't a bad person but…she needs someone who lives like she does. I think we both thought that we were more similar than we are at first," Penny explained.
Penny laughed at Jessica's quip. With a light pull of the arm, she guided her out to walk around the small trail that encircled Hogsmeade.
