Tracey shrugged. It really hurt her to know that Sara was going to be miserable for the rest of her life with only the one light in her life. It was ironic that Heidi thought Tracey was nuts for the fanatical path she'd chosen and that Tracey thought the same of Sara. "I guess."
She felt bad for making Heidi jealous but in an odd way it felt good. It meant that she still meant something to her. Tracey's jealousy meant the same thing, as much as it pained her to admit it.
"I just needed to know," she repeated, really hoping Heidi would understand. "I know you don't like her and she's done some terrible things. But I can't throw stones after what I did to you. And…I get her, to some degree." She choked up a little as she tried to explain.
"How strange," Tracey joked back. She sat up a little straighter when Heidi put her jacket over her. "Two acts of chivalry in one night? Are you trying to make me swoon?" She smiled. Tracey really enjoyed when Heidi was like that. It made her feel girly, which she found she loved when it involved Heidi. The rest of the time, well, not so much…
"Oh, you just lost a point," Tracey teased. "Not very chivalrous to be so presumptuous about a lady's home."
She took Heidi's hand and quickly led her down the stairs and out of the rain. Once inside, having run quickly, Tracey just stood in front of her. Her heart was racing but not because of the bit of running.
