Tracey listened and nodded but she didn’t know what to say. She knew that’s what Heidi wanted but she wasn’t sure it was possible. Could Heidi really forget the lies, how she turned people against Heidi, how she made it look like Heidi was a predator after blackmailing Fleur to help her? Could Tracey forget about the drugs and her womanizing?
“I wasn’t asking you what you should feel but what you should feel,” Tracey sighed. Lightly she brushed her thumb over Heidi’s knuckles. “I…there was really only one person after I left school.”
She chewed her bottom lip. “She’s like I was…she couldn’t tell anyone about her and us. She was…married. I thought she might leave him one day and that…she might actually love me.”
It was clear the topic upset her. “It just…ended a little bit ago. I needed to be sure…I was making the right decision…you know?” She knew she was being cryptic, but she couldn’t just spell it out.
