Tracey listened to Heidi begging from the other side of the door. She felt the sinking feeling in her stomach but there was now a flutter of butterflies. The idea of letting Heidi in was exciting and not in any dramatic or bad way.
Their chemistry was undeniable, no matter how much Tracey tried to convince herself otherwise. It was a curse in other ways too. If she hadn’t been so wrapped up with Heidi, none of this would have ever happened.
“How many one more chances should I give you if this one is as disastrous as last night?”
Slowly, she reached for the doorknob and opened the door a crack. “And how are you going to manage to get us food untouched by your hands?” She was tempted to make a cutting comment about how she didn’t know where Heidi’s hands had been but she stopped herself when she saw how miserable she looked standing at the door.
“This is against my better judgment, but…” She opened to door wide enough for Heidi to come inside.
