“Mostly,” Tracey told her. “I didn’t make it completely from scratch but mostly. It’s the first time I’ve tried it. You really like it?”
“Ah.” Tracey didn’t know what else to say. In truth, it hurt her a little bit that Heidi hadn’t admitted what she was doing, like she was doing something wrong. What made her feel worse was that she knew she was being a total hypocrite. Who had Tracey told? About anything? No one.
The timer on the stove signaled that dinner was ready. Happy for the distraction, Tracey stood and got the casserole dish. Setting it on the table, she put a basket of honey wheat rolls. Spooning out some for Heidi and herself, she took a couple rolls too and sat back down.
Unsure of what to say, Tracey began to eat her dinner in silence.
