The explosion of fire that erupted between them and the zombies caused the three soldiers to stagger back. The fire remained like a wall, burning without any visible source sustaining it. Magic! The soldiers were quaking in their boots, for magic was something they had no defense against. It was unnatural...even more so then the zombies.
When Adam turned to check on the alien, she was no longer there. Cursing, he hoped that she wasn't dead. Retreating back from the wall of fire, it was too hot for them...more then their built in air conditioning could handle. Besides, burning zombies were walking through the wall of fire to get to them still.
Keeping up their fusillade of fire, they were pushed back towards the demon. A second wall of fire erupted, proving that the alien was still alive...somewhere. Ceasing his firing, Adam ran a life sign scan. There...up...up...on the demon!? Amazed to see the spritely little alien girl up on the demon, she had to be twenty stories up at least! Cursing again, he shouldered his rifle and ran towards the base of the demon.
Something was going on up there, a light show that was blinding the night sky. Then the light faded, the howling of the undead stopped, and the demon's tentacles crashed to the ground all around them. The demon itself began to topple...away from them thankfully. Adam's attention was focused on a human shaped speck falling towards the ground though. Rushing towards it, he drew a grenade and threw it towards the falling figure.
When the grenade neared Danica, it exploded into a blob of bio-jelly. Enveloping the girl, it cushioned her fall completely, then melted away. Adam was there at her side, picking her up in his arms. The other two surviving soldiers reached his side, and he began to call in a evac...

"I am still amazed we survived it," a female voice spoke. "Just be thankful you did," a gruff male voice answered. "I am going to hit the suck-pump," the gruff male voice added.
There was the sound of movement, and metal on metal footsteps. There was the steady thrumming sensation permeating everything, and the whine of jet engines. "Hey, I don't think we should celebrate just yet. We are still going into the middle of a war zone," Adam's voice spoke without the distortion of his armor's speakers.
The Lieutenant sat in the personnel hold of a Dragon helijet. His helmet and gloves were off, sitting in the empty seat to his left. The seats to his right were all occupied by Danica, who had been stretched out and a blanket put over her. Her head rested on Adam's lap, which had a blanket folded up on it to serve as a pillow. His armored legs wouldn't be comfortable otherwise. His spiked hair stood on end once again, the tips dyed a mix of red, white, and blue. From the top, it looked like the American flag.
In the seat across from them sat one of the other surviving soldiers, a brunette woman who looked a bit ill. She hadn't been fond of the zombies either, and was still sick to her stomach. A open box of MRE's sat next to her, along with a trio of silver plastic pouches. There were no windows in the cramped compartment, and no one else in the personnel bay currently.
"At least she did it. She must be very brave," the female soldier remarked. "Someone got a crush?" Adam teased his comrade with a smirk.
