"Yes it is," Tracey rebutted in a breathy tone. "It is."
"Don't say that." She tried to hide it but the hurt managed to permeate her tone. "That's what I need to be…if you are going to get over it." Tracey couldn't admit she needed to get over it too, because she knew she never could. "You need to treat me like them…or worse…than you can…" Could what? Forget her? Write her off? Only Heidi knew that.
"Don't, what?" Tracey reached for Heidi's hand. She used her fingers to tighten her grip on Tracey's wrist before pulling away. She struggled slightly, wondering if Heidi would hang on.
