"No, I haven't noticed it." Heidi said, "Skeeter is a pain, sure, but you can't expect to live your life without hardships and annoyances." She explained, "and why the hell would Skeeter be interested in you? And sure, it might be hard for you, but it wouldn't be impossible! Merlin, Tracey, maybe if you weren't so afraid, you'd see it wasn't as bad as you thought!"
Tracey's words stunned her. She felt tears in her eyes. "Was that what I was to you?" she willed her voice not to crack. "Just a little fun?"
As she continued talking, Tracey's words cut Heidi deeper. She had to turn her head to keep from crying.
"Sod off?!" Heidi was struggling to keep Tracey from flailing. "You were the one who stayed here!" she was really craving a drink and a line right about now. Finally, she just let go of Tracey's arms, instantly missing the spark.
