Characters: Marietta Edgecombe & Cho Davies
Setting: Cho's house, late Tuesday evening
Summary: The rules were simple, do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollars, and go straight to jail. Only in this case, jail meant the Davies resident in Diagon Circle.
Watching the clock hands move from her place on the lumpy sofa of her too big and too suffocating two bedroom flat, Marietta became absolutely certain of three things. One, Marietta had no clue what she was doing with her life and apparently that wasn't a secret. Two, Evelyn Jorkins was an absolute bitch. And more importantly if she didn't find some better option she would have a lot more to regret later beyond cussing out her mother. There was too much buzzing around her head. All of those doubts and temptations coming very close to winning. Because it would have been so easy to just fall into old habits. Hell, she was due. Every day now was one more of her sobriety and not a single one was easy. Sometimes she could fake it well enough, but her mother just had a certain charm about her. Her mother was probably off with her fucking elegant ladies laughing about something that wasn't really funny, already forgotten that she had a daughter, when Marietta was trying not to tear at the seams. She had been trying to keep together, to be able to handle this on her own because in the end that was all that would be left. Except that it wasn't enough. Maybe she should have called ahead. Polite people probably called ahead, but Marietta didn't exactly count herself among those sorts of people. And of course there was Charlie, but sometimes he just made her feel just as shitty as her mother, but Cho? For whatever reason, Cho never let her down. Still wearing the dress she wore to go her her mother with a frayed jumper tugged over it to keep out the cold she paused just outside of the door to the Davies Residence. It was late, late enough for normal people to be in bed, which at least meant that her sprogs were tucked safely into bed. They put her on edge normally, she couldn't imagine how it would be seeing them right now. Worrying her lip, she took a deep breath in and knocked on the door.
