Who: Albus and Harry (NPC)
When: Early morning, around 4am on July 26th
Where: His parents home
Summary: Albus and Harry have a talk.
Public/Private: Private
Rating: G
Albus sat in the dark kitchen of the house he grew up in, he hadn't slept a wink and he wanted to talk to his parents, mainly his father, so he had let himself in. Why was it so nerve wracking? The idea of being a father? It wasn't like he did anything wrong. He was soon going to be twenty-four years old. He had been out on his own and held a stable job since he was eighteen. He and Shay, yes had their downfalls but they maintained a stable relationship even through their break up.
Albus was not poor, now he didn't have so much money he thought his shite didn't stink. But his parents still took care of them, even after they had moved out of the house. Grant you they were expected to survive on their own but even away, they never wanted for anything. Albus didn't live in the most luxurious of flats but he had all of the top things that came out that he was interested in. Harry disliked the wizard technology but yet the first laptop Albus owned, Harry bought for him because Albus wanted it. His flat? Albus didn't put any money down on it, his parents did. They were good parents and Albus in a way thought he was disappointing them by his actions.
What would they say? What would they do? Well he was soon to find out because the kitchen light came on, forcing Albus to squint his eyes to better adjust to the new lighting. He seen his father standing there in his usual nightly attire of lounge pants and a robe. Albus realized exactly how long he had been sitting in the kitchen, he got there a bit after ten that night and now his father was up, it was around four in the morning, so it was a good six hours Albus had been planted in the wooden kitchen chair.
Both, father and son, stared each other down before Harry moved passed Albus and further into the kitchen. Albus turned to watch his dad put water in a kettle and set it on the stove, brewing of his morning tea and he seen as Harry collected the milk and sugar cubes.
"What's wrong?" Harry had asked without even turning around to Albus, was he that open? Could you look at Albus and just see that something was troubling him? Clearing his throat, Albus (against his better judgment) shook his head.
"Nothing."
"Ah, so you were just bored and decided to sit at the kitchen table, alone and in the dark?" Albus didn't say anything but he did shift uncomfortably when Harry shot him a look. It wasn't long before Harry joined Albus at the table, setting a cup of hot tea in front of him. "So, is nothing still the matter?"
Albus sucked in a deep breath and swallowed roughly.
"I have to talk to you." He seen Harry nod. "I want to move from my flat." What was Albus expecting? Harry to laugh and tell him he was to stay put? Harry to tell him that wasn't the wisest decision to make? Yes. But how he responded was completely opposite of what Albus thought.
"Okay, where do you want to move?"
"Well... I got in contact with the bloke Bernard, the one you know who sells real estate?" Albus seen his father nod, taking a drink from his cup. "He has a house that is rather perfect, I think. Big back yard, four baths, three of them are en suite. Five bedrooms..." Two living rooms, a granny flat... Of course the rest was added in thought. Harry laughed.
"And where is this mansion located?"
"West Yorkshire."
"And the price?" Albus told him the price and seen Harry stare at him like he was a mad man, Albus shifted a bit again to explain that price was cut in half of what it was originally, but that still didn't change how Harry looked at his son. "Look," Harry said after a moment. "If you want a house, that is fine. But Bernard is out to make a sell and he's selling you something you don't need. There's plenty of one and two bedroom modest homes out there and since it's your first buy..."
"No, dad. I want that one."
"What are you going to do with all those rooms, Albus?"
"I admit it's a bit big but it's out of the city, in a wizarding community, quiet, has plenty of parks and stuff around. Close to primary schools for the prewizard and-" Harry cut him off laughing.
"What in the world are you interested in primary schools for? You didn't really like any school you went to and it's impossible for you to go back to primary school now."
"Shaylyn's pregnant." Albus couldn't help it, he had been thinking of how to tell him but nothing was working out so he just blurted it. The confession shut Harry up quickly as he stared his son down. "Shaylyn is... She's pregnant. We found out the other day. It's unexpected I know, but..." Albus trailed off, not sure of what to say anymore.
"Well, that is..." Harry as well trailed off to prove that he was speechless. But it didn't last very long thankfully because Albus needed any and all advice he could get. "That is a lot to take in. What are you going to do?"
Albus looked around before shrugging.
"I don't know... I'm trying to do what I can now in getting the house." He didn't need anything that big still? "Yeah but it's not every day I get a deal that good either." How did he plan on buying it? "The bank, taking out a loan." They weren't going to give him something that big.. "That's why I need you to come with me." And how did he expect to pay off the bank and get everything else in order? "Pick up extra hours at the Ministry. Look I want to do the right thing. I want to give Shaylyn somewhere safe to live as well as the baby. I don't know what I'm doing but it feels right." Harry was going to say no, Albus knew it. But then again, he was surprised.
"This is your responsibility," Harry started. "Your financial one. If you want to do this, I'll help you. I'll talk to Bernard and see if he won't go down a bit more on the price." Albus smiled. "What are you and Shay going to do?"
"What you mean?"
"Well you're having a child, moving back in together, raising a baby together..."
"Yeah I've been thinking about proposing." Albus admitted.
"Just make sure when you do, you're doing it for the right reasons." Albus was? "No, not just because you're having a baby but because you want to. If you do something because you HAVE to, you may as well hang up any chance of happiness. Just take time to really think on it."
"I do love her." Albus admitted. "I know we've had our rough times but I do. I guess I just never really realized I actually did until recently. I wanted to freak out more than I did when I found out she was pregnant but if I was going to have a baby... I wouldn't want one with anyone else, you know?" He seen his father smile and he offered a weak one back. "I'm going to have to do it soon though before her father finds out and beats me." He heard Harry laugh and felt his shoulder receive a strong pat.
"Yep, that you better. He's probably going to kill you."
"...Thanks for the support." Albus said, taking a stand from the table along with his father.
"I've got to get ready for work. You go home and get some sleep. I'll be over during lunch and we'll go to Gringotts." Albus nodded and left the house. Well... Things on his end went better than expected. That was a good thing.
