Thomas had managed to miss the torrential storms that had plagued the riverlands through the clever use of a litter and woods witch who claimed to control the weather. Thomas was uncertain of that claim, but she certainly knew how to read the sky for signs of foul weather and lightening and he had infinite trust in those abilities.
The storm had waylaid him and made him late for fulfilling the King's invitation, but the Starks and Tullys were fast friends--Thomas was willing to risk it. Besides, his younger brother had gone on ahead and Thomas was certain that Noah would make the appropriate apologies, even if he did botch them.
The idea of a feast appealed to Thomas. It gave him the opportunity to seek out a wife (something his father would be glad of) and the opportunity to hunt with someone other than his vassals and hedge knights. He didn't know if the good King William fancied hunting at all, but Thomas had an itch to hunt stag in the Kingswood surrounding King's Landing.
He paid the woods witch (Joanne) a healthy number of stags and got her rooms at an inn close to the Keep. Her services had been necessary and appreciated. When he got back to Riverrun, he had every intention of finding a place for her within the castle walls as a servant, if she wished. For Thomas, the lure of a warm bed and a bellyful of food would be enough of an incentive to stay, but you never knew with smallfolk.
He dismissed his knights and settled in a shaded courtyard, crossing his legs and reading over a request for a marriage match between the younger daughter of House Piper and one of the numerous Freys. Lord Piper was holding out for his daughters to marry Tullys and the idea made Thomas weary. He didn't want a wife from the Riverlands.
