Hester had managed to convince her parents that her place was in King's Landing for the feast and they had surprisingly been slow to come up with reasons why she shouldn't. Neither of them were particularly keen on travel and especially not the treacherous road from the Vale to King's Landing. Hester had finally appealed to them by promising to set up trade alliances with Highgarden and recruiting fine knights to serve at the Bloody Gate.
She did have intentions of those, yes, but her main focus was on seeing and being seen. She'd never been to court except when she was a small child and her mother had brought her along for someone's nameday tourney or some such and it was novel enough that Hester planned to take her time absorbing the sights and sounds of a city in motion.
She packed heavy, two large wayns carrying her gifts for the king and things she intended to trade in order to spark interest in the godsforsaken Vale and her future claim. Today, she'd chosen a sky blue gown trimmed in the palest ermine and swept her hair up in moonstones. She would be formidable, once she arrived.
Her party made it to King's Landing in good time, time enough for Hester to freshen and wander about the city streets. She admired the smallfolk in their stores and stalls, but her focus was, of course, on the Red Keep. The reddish stones seemed so much more inviting than anything The Eyrie had ever offered and she could not help but smile as she made her way closer. She had knights with her, younger sons of minor lordlings, but neither interested her much. She would much rather meet some lord of some great house, but she would settle for a romantic youth with kind eyes and a kinder purse.
Perhaps she could even meet a Northman and become queen in the North like the Starks had been long before the arrival of Aegon the Conqueror.
For now, her steps matched the beats of a singer's drum and she was half tempted to dance her way up the steps to have the King and Queen's audience.
