Theodore had been on the edge of snapping at people for a long time. He was working himself hard to restore his good credit as a student and as a healer-in-training, and the amount of emotion he'd been holding back since his father's death had reached dangerous levels. Every moment of every day, he was aware that no one else would be looking out for him if he took even a single misstep. So far, he'd managed to convince himself that he could handle whatever life could throw at him.
But he was not as well-adjusted as he thought he was, and the sight that had greeted him in the infirmary last night had pushed him over some kind of edge. Every time he thought about going back to the infirmary that night, he remembered the two times he'd walked in on Rosier and someone else in his office, and then he remembered each time he'd blushed or felt uncomfortable in his presence, each memory itching under his skin.
He was done. He was so done with all of it, done with being quiet and willing to endure it. He was honestly afraid of what he might do if Rosier made the slightest suggestive remark. He loved his internship, but he didn't need it; he could figure out how to get what he wanted without having to sit back and take this. It was time for him to stand up for himself.
When he reached the infirmary at the usual time that he arrived on Thursday night, he didn't set down his bag or put on his healer's coat, as he usually did. Instead, he sought out Rosier, and stood in front of him, standing tall with his hands at his sides. "I need to talk to you," he said firmly. "Now."
