log: Drake and Remedy
who: Kasey and Ran where: Medlab when: late last night (27th/28th) after Ren and Ran thread what: They're BFFLs, apparently. Who knew? So they banter.
So, uh. That had gone ... well.
It had been, what, five months? Ish? Sarena had been right, they wouldn't last past six, but goddamn, would a little effort have killed her? --No, no, that was unfair, she had done what she could. She'd never changed. Elvyran would say he never expected her to, but he'd hoped there was something about Ren he'd see if they were together. But she was who she was, and as much as he cared, Elvyran had to back out. For the both of them. He wasn't stupid; after some serious thought, he had to admit it was no wonder he was so aggressive all of a sudden.
He'd been dating an empath. Imbecile. And she didn't have enough control. She'd bled into him, so he'd ... quit. He may have been a clone, but he wanted to be calm and content again, instead of angry all the time.
Of course, without Sarena, he couldn't exactly spend the night with her. He didn't feel like sleeping, so he ended up in the medlab at way too late at night with a pot of coffee and his study materials. He was good, he picked up medical information on the first read and retained most of it, but he still had a way to go before he could be considered on Hank's level. But he was getting there, coffee in his right hand while the left sketched out a heart, drawing arrows to label the parts. The model was in front of him, textbook open with paper covering it so he couldn't cheat.
Kasey was spending more time with Aubrey. Or at least trying, but she still found herself working in the medlab a couple nights a week. She really needed to talk to Hank and hopefully find some confidence. Like the Cowardly Lion, only not.
But tonight it looked like she wasn't alone. As she was going through inventory, she noticed lights and the enticing smell of coffee. Figuring that zombies didn't need lights or coffee, she headed in the direction, smirking when she saw Ran. She liked Ran, always had, original or clone. He was an excellent person to work with, even if they didn't spend time together outside of the medlab.
"G'night, mate. Down here awfully late, aren'tcha?" Like she was one to talk.
"Pots and kettles, Miss Gibson." He looked up, raising his mug in a gesture of welcome before taking a drink. Elvyran liked Kasey, always had Maybe a little too much at one point, but then he'd gotten blown up, killed, and cloned -- and she was one hell of a person to work with. Nothing was boring.
"Why can't you sleep? I'll show you mine if you show me yours."
Pots and kettles again, Kasey had at one time crushed on the young medical professional. But that was then, and this was now. Funny how those things never come up. She went and grabbed a cup and poured herself some of his coffee. "I never said I wasn't."
Well, when one's former crush nearly burnt down the school doing God knew what with her deaf boyfriend, it was time to let go, wasn't it?
"I broke up with my girlfriend because her empathic abilities made me into a raging bitch." Elvyran said it matter-of-factly, taking a casual sip of his coffee. "That and other things, but I like to keep it simple." After a pause, he had to lean forward, curious. "What exactly were you two doing that nearly burnt down the school that one time?"
That was generally a good sign to move on, yes. Kasey nodded nonchalantly, because, you know, there was nothing weird about that. Not at Xavier's.
"Keep in simple, stupid." And that was a bad time to sip her coffee, and she started choking at the question. Thanks, Ran. "Oh my God, Ran, I'm not going to tell you that," she practically shouted, pushing him on his shoulder sort of roughly. "Use your sodding imagination, perv."
Elvyran laughed, nearly spitting out his coffee before he remembered to swallow first. "You did not! Oh my God, Kasey." It was too funny, and Ran needed the laugh like she wouldn't believe. "This may be completely inappropriate, but I am forced to point out that, had that been me, burn scars would not have been a problem. Still ..." He snickered, trying to stifle his laughter with a hand over his mouth. "...I have to be glad that Ren didn't breathe fire."
Kasey probably should have been glad to make him laugh. He did need it. But she was too busy being indignant. "You shut the bloody hell up---" But then she started laughing at his completely inappropriate comment. She was clearly trying to hide it, because she covered her mouth with a hand and turned her head aside Yeah, no one would notice. And she probably would have been blushing, but that tended not to show up on the image inducer. Thank God "Yeah, well, it wasn't you, was it?" she finally retorted, rolling her eyes.
"Really? I think fire breath would be a great addition," she added dryly.
"It could shine as brightly as her personality," Elvyran replied wryly. He was still snickering, taking a sip of coffee against his better judgment. "I'm grateful it wasn't me." He shrugged, frowning, exaggerating it. "I just don't know if I could handle you, Kasey, I'll be honest."
Kasey snorted slightly. "Definite trouble in paradise, there." She rolled her eyes at him again, sipping carefully. "No, I don't think you can, but next time I get you in bed, I'll suck your cock and see what happens."
It was possible she said that as dryly as possible just to make him choke on his coffee. This time, Elvyran really did spit out his coffee -- right on his sketch. Thank God he was laughing. Reflexively bringing a hand to his mouth, he wiped with the back of his hand, forlornly crumpling up the paper. He could always make another one, and by the time he was tossing the paper into the trash, he was mostly quiet. "Should I be offended or take that as a challenge?"
Kasey was almost doubled over laughing at his reaction. Oh, man, that was so worth it. Worth anything really. She tried to wipe the smile off her face, but she really couldn't. "Challenge. Definitely challenge. Unless I hurt your delicate sensibilities, in which case. Offense." And now she was just grinning with amusement. It's been a long day...week...while.
"I'll take you up on that one of these days." Elvyran snorted, running a hand over his face, smiling until it hurt. "We'll have to keep quiet so your boyfriend doesn't kill me, though." "We're in the right business, we've got lots of beds down here." Kasey chuckled and added, terribly and completely off-color in retrospect, "Eh, he's deaf, no need to keep quiet."
And then she paused and face-palmed. She really shouldn't have said that, and now she actually did feel bad. Joking about having sex with her coworker? That was okay. Joking about his hearing? Not cool. Possibly because it was something of an issue, one that they were working on, but. Still.
Elvyran paused, realizing that ... well, that just wasn't kosher. Scratching the back of his neck, he let the silence hang there before a quiet, apologetic, "Sorry. That was over the line." They were just joking, after all, and Aubrey was a good guy. Poking fun like tha was just ... mean.
"Yeah. It really was." She looked down at the floor, guilty. "He's really such a great boyfriend." And she looked a little sad for that. Sad because she was being a crap girlfriend recently. With a sigh, she shook her head and smiled sadly to Ran. "Sorry, the blowjob will have to wait, mate. Maybe I'll find you a girlfriend in my stead." There, change of topic.
"I think I'll live. I would've lived anyway, but burns are painful to heal." And then he gave her a look, frowning. "Don't you even think about it. I'm single, and I don't need you sneaking around trying to set me up."
"Are you serious or are you just being stubborn?" she asked about his veto. He did just break up with his girlfriend, so getting together with someone was probably the last thing on his mind. Still. She could at least keep an eye open.
"I'm serious. Just because I left Ren doesn't mean I'm looking for a rebound." Leaning forward conspiratorially, he said quietly, "Between you and me, I'm not Scott Summers." Because all the gossip? Hell yeah, it go to the medlab.
Kasey did snort in agreement at that. "Okay, okay. Matchmaking will go to the bottom of my priorities. Fine?"
