Thread: Hawkeye and Speed
Who: Kate Bishop and Tommy Shepherd
When: (backdated) April 29th
Where: hospital
What: Since Kate took a nose dive beneath the pavement after the DC showdown, Tommy's been spending a lot of time at the hospital, keeping the comatose Avenger company. He's getting a little depressed over it. But maybe today things are looking up.
At those times when a stray teacher hadn't caught him and forced him into the classroom, Tommy was at the hospital. At first, the nurses had frowned when he'd shown up on her floor but eventually even the staff had come to expect him and let him in without a word. Kate's father had donated a lot to the place, which meant her accommodations were much nicer than the usual.
Sometimes he sat with her in silence, watching the slow drip of the IV into her arm.
Mostly though, Tommy talked. He wasn't good at being quiet for long periods of time. He was even worse at sitting still. It was a side-effect of his mutation. Fast metabolism, short attention span. When you were capable of moving miles per second, those seconds felt longer than most people's days. When he was talking, he didn't have to listen to himself think about how pale and dead she looked in the bed.
So he sat next to Kate's bed and fidgeted in the comfy chair. And talked. A lot.
"So that Spider guy and his girlfriend are getting married this week. I'd bring you to the wedding so you could gawk at all your favorite spandex-fields - of course I'd make you be my date. That's fair payment, right? But, you know, you have to wake up first in order for that to work."
He slumped back in the chair, lolling his head back miserably.
"Please?"
He didn't expect her to answer. So when he kept talking, it was about the more mundane aspects, although he wasn't looking at her just then. "Your Captain America came by to see you the other day. Gay tights and all. What is your obsession with spandex, anyway? And the little wings on his helmet? Seriously gay."
