Thread: Scion and Open
Who: Julian Keller and Open
When: February 9, 2008; early morning
Where: Xavier's School; the basketball court
What: Shooting a few hoops in the morning before breakfast to take your mind off numerous things. Sometimes it can really help.
He wouldn't have cared so much if he, like so many, hadn't been in the situation of your parents being ashamed of you. He had the life in California: friends, popularity, dates every night and never had to sit around and do nothing on a Friday and Saturday. He had it all and he was thankful despite his attitude towards numerous people. But despite the fact that he never used his gift against people in school to either impress them or scare them, his father had always seen him as a liability to the Keller name. And no matter how much his mother protested and tried to keep William Keller from sending their son off, he finally did it in the end without a second thought.
Then William Keller was killed. When it had happened those few months ago, Julian didn't cry. He didn't sit in his room and mourn the loss. He had talked with Emma about it and had shared how he really wasn't sad that his father was gone. He hadn't respected him for some time since he had sent him away to Xavier's, so there was no real loss.
Now he was here and he had amazing abilities to help make the world better for mutants, and they were teaching up algebra and ancient history and things he was learning back in school in California. Sure, he had his training with Emma, which was the best hour and so many minutes of his life considering Emma was gorgeous, but that was beside the point. He was training. He didn't need to train. He knew how to use his powers. Controlling them...whatever. He could do that, too! He could.
For months he had been considering hitching a plane back to California and just doing his own thing with the money he had left, but then Magneto stepped in and things went from bleak to better. Much better.
Why hadn't they just done that sooner?
Julian shook his head, giving the basketball one or two hard bounces before he held his hand over it, letting his powers dribble the ball against the court. Catching it in his hands when it bounced back up, he took a shot, landing the ball in the hoop. The ball fell through and bounced off to the side, only to be stopped in mid air and began bouncing back to him.
He let out another frustrated huff and took another shot, the ball fall nearly through the hoop.
Then there was Sofia. He really liked her. Perhaps more than any other girl he had ever met. But she was difficult, which only made him like her more. And he always tried so hard to impress her, but it just never seemed to work in his favor. It wasn't like he had meant to get them lost in the woods! He hadn't. And it was upsetting to him that she didn't know that. If he had meant to get them lost in the woods, it would have been a lot different than it had been.
Julian let the basketball drop from his hands and let it bounce a few inches away from him before falling still. "Whatever," he grumbled, giving the orange call a good kick only to have it hit the basketball hoop stand and come back and hit him in the leg. "Ow, man! Screw you!"
