"It IS," Alice agreed, smiling as Janice laughed, and ruffled her hair a bit. "I know you would, I'm sure he'll know it was just a mistake. Who knows, his owl could have gone hunting before delivering the package or something. Always the problem with a delivery system based on carnivorous birds."
Alice's heart strings pulled a bit at what Janice said. She certainly hoped her baby girl would always need her, but she could see she was growing up, and grown up girls didn't need their mum so much, did they? Her own had died when she was very young, so she defaulted to believing one always needed them, but she could be very wrong. "Thanks, Janey. I hope you will always think so," she added with a smile.
"For yourself," Alice said, voice even. "I mean...now that you're older, I imagine you'll want to date more. Which is fine. And natural. But I just want you to be careful is all."
