It wasn't a date, it wasn't even the stimulating conversation Padma had hoped for by suggesting it. It was a certifiable flop, one she'd regret planning. They should have just gone to dinner and been done with it. Or, Padma should have just gone on her date with Percy to begin with and not let herself get tied up in a man who, less than a week later, clearly didn't think very much of her.
"No, I apologize. I wish it were different circumstances. I should have very much liked to discuss it with you," she said sincerely, reaching over to place her hand on Percy's knee, a friendly gesture. "Perhaps another time?" She stood, slipping her purse back to her shoulder before extending a hand to Percy. "It was a pleasure, Percy."
