After Rose had told him about the book series, the one where it talked about his godfather's life and his parents' during the second war, he hadn't been able to stop thinking about reading them. And as soon as he got some free time, he got himself all the books from the library and began to read them in his apartment whenever he wasn't working or hanging out with Rose or the others.
It was so strange reading about people he knew so well from a different point of view. To see his godfather Harry as an eleven-year-old boy and older, living all those things he knew so well by now from all his stories... But this was different. This was so detailed. This was his life, in paper. And his parents were there too. His heart clenched when he saw Remus' name mentioned for the first time. And it hurt even more when he saw how people treated him for what he was, not for who he was. But then there was his mother, just as fun and lively as his grandmother had told him she was. She loved his father for who he was, and he saw that when he read the words printed on the paper.
He devoured the books in no time, finding himself with his nose buried in the last book after only 3 three days -- and they would've been less if he hadn't gone to work. However, he had put off reading the last book for some reason. He knew what was going to happen in this book, and he wasn't sure he was ready for it.
The book had been sitting on his bedside table for weeks and weeks, ignored but not forgotten, until today he decided it was time to find out what really happened to his parents.
Each page he flipped was getting him closer and closer to his parents' deaths and, honestly, he wasn't sure if he was ready for it, but he knew he wanted to know what happened exactly. He needed it. He had learned so much about his parents in those days; those moments in their lives, like when his father wasa teenager hanging out with his friends... He would have never learned about them from Harry or his grandma. And reading about his parents' death was something he knew he had to read about. He had always been told they died as heroes, but he was never told how they died exactly... Until then.
He had expected it to be a tough and rough moment; and he had expected it to hurt. But what he had expected came nothing close to what it had really felt when he read those lines. His heart broke in a million pieces as he read the lines where his parenst died. He cried silently, tears running down his cheek as he read the moment he became an orphan. It was hard, but it also gave him some sort of closure. He knew everything now... He felt closer to his parents than ever before.
He wasn't sure how long he sat in his couch staring at the book, tears falling down his face silently. He wiped them away and put the book down. He needed Rose. He needed to hug her and feel close to her. He didn't want to be alone in his apartment right now.
He quickly made his way to her apartment and knocked on the door, silently praying she'd be alone. It wasn't that he didn't want to see Molly or Lily, but he needed her more than anyone else right now.
