"Well, that was a miserable failure," Draco huffed as he dropped himself down into the chair behind his desk. He was far too proud to go right home after Potter had dashed off like that, knowing Parkinson was likely lurking about the Manor just waiting for him. Sighing, he plucked a candy cane off his desk and slid the hooked end into his mouth as he leaned back in his chair. He glanced down when the pup in his lap shifted, burrowing up closer into the warmth of his clothes. The little hat on its head had slipped off, and Draco's fingers quickly found the spot behind the pup's ears that made its tail flick against his leg.
Quirking a smile, he shook his head. "Perhaps not so bad after all." He slipped the candy cane from his mouth for a moment while he summoned a glass of water for himself, only to glance down as the pup began licking the end of the treat. Draco opened his mouth to snap at the pup but stopped himself, letting out a quiet huff of a laugh and scratching his pup behind the ears again. "Very well, little pup, you can have it."
He transfigured a paperweight into a bowl and filled it with water when the pup seemed satisfied with the candy cane, setting it on his desk and keeping a careful eye on it while he settled back in his chair once more. "Now then... What to do about Potter?"
