There are colder places in the world than Scotland in December, but if you are passing fond of your toes and fingers it is still wise to wrap up well. All that could be seen of Hermione Granger were a few tufts of hair spilling out of her hat, and down onto her scarf, and a nose that was turning red.
“Is there a reason we have to do this tonight?” she asked.
“If the symbolism of midwinter has passed you by...” Severus said.
“It hasn’t,” she snapped. “It’s all very deep and meaningful; it’s just bloody cold as well.”
“A skilled potion’s master collects his own ingredients, to make sure they are fresh.”
“And what potion is the mistletoe going to be used for?”
Snape didn’t reply.
“It isn’t, is it?” Hermione stopped dead in the snow. “This has nothing to do with any potions.”
“Minerva wants some for the decorations,” he muttered.
“And you dragged me out here, why?”
“Misery loves company,” he offered.

The mistletoe did look pretty glittering in the light from the candles suspended in mid-air.
Not that Hermione could see it with her eyes closed, pressed up against a Potions’ Master and being snogged senseless.
“You were right,” she murmured.
“I usually am,” he replied. “What about this time?”
“Ingredients you’ve gathered yourself are more potent.”
Though that might be considered cheating so....

They’d thought that Hermione was mad to take up with Lucius Malfoy.
They didn’t know him like she did.
It wasn’t the fabulous sex, though it was fabulous. No other man considered having one’s boss glued to his desk with a lit candle up his arse to be a suitable Christmas gift.
She liked it.
Her boss appeared to as well, perhaps too much?
