"I had someone help me with the words," Gilderoy said as Draco pulled the scroll out of the box. "You know, I'm awfully good with words, but this Neville chap suggested I use something a little more formal and less, what did he call it, 'flowery' for this occasion. Oh, and he would know flowery! Genius with plants, that one."
Draco's eyes darted down the few simple lines written on the parchment.
I am still yours if you want me.
However, you are now released
From any and all obligations.
The vow that bound you
Is hereby dissolved
Of my own free will.
He felt the magic flow around him and through him, and suddenly, there was no force compelling him to be here.
Draco looked up from the scroll. Gilderoy had turned away from him to face the window again. It was the first time he'd really had a chance to look at the other man.
He looked older, and yet extremely vulnerable. Gorgeous in his own way, but the sadness the weighed on his brow was heart-breaking.
Suddenly, Draco felt that uncomfortable squeeze inside his chest.
"Why'd you go and do a stupid thing like that?!"
"What?"
"What kind of a man are you, anyway? You trick someone into giving you what you want, you're not supposed to give it back! Now… just… do it again! Make me stay. Make me… come back." Tears formed at the corner of Draco's eyes, his shoulders were hunched up, arms plastered to his sides, and his face was so flushed, for a moment, Gilderoy thought he looked like one of those nutcracker soldiers.
It took Lockhart a moment to recover. "I– I want… OKAY!"
Draco's face softened. He gently put the scroll back in the box and tucked into his pocket, as if it was his greatest treasure.
