Dec 1, N/A, N/A, A Smile Like That
For those of y'all who might say "But it's no longer Dec 1st!!" I must reply, "I have special dispensation from the Mod... and a time turner." :D Yay, magic!
Title: A Smile Like That
Characters/Fandom: Whoever you want/None specifically, though I imagined HP when I wrote it
Rating: PG
Word Count: 378
Summary: This is what happens when a poor, hapless girl gets caught in the middle of a slashy moment.
Prompt: Uh, none.
She looked up from her meal and was caught. Her breath froze in her lungs until every part of her body tingled, whether for desperately needed oxygen or for… something else, she wasn't quite certain.
It should be illegal, it really should. No one should be able to smile like that.
Only it wasn't really a smile, was it? No, it was a promise, a dare, a tease. It was the small, knowing quirk of lips, the flash of teeth, the dimple that played peekaboo…. It was so much more than a smile.
As she sat there, thighs pressed together so hard they trembled, she heard the deafening sound of food falling off her fork to land with a plop on her skirt. Finally, his hold on her broken, she was able to wrench her gaze away from that heart-stealing twist of lips only to see that…
He wasn't even looking at her.
She closed her eyes, stomach sinking right down to her folded-over socks before she opened them again and turned to see who had managed to draw such a smile from him. Upper body twisting, she glanced behind her, following the path of his gaze only to see… no one. Well, all right, someone, but surely he couldn't be looking like that at—
Her eyes flared wide as she looked back and forth, tracing the trajectory over and over until she was absolutely certain that he was looking there and… Then she sat back with a sigh, a forlorn outpouring of breath that left her completely deflated.
Because there he was, the last person she would ever have suspected of being worthy of that smile, sitting there, lost in the power of it much as she had been. Only a person who had recently been frozen by that sense of gut-churning need could truly recognise it. She shook her head at the glazed eyes, the shock-parted lips, the touch of pink on cheeks that never blushed.
Standing, she brushed her skirt down over her thighs, collected her bag, and walked toward the door. Pausing for a moment, she leaned down and said, "You'll catch flies, if you aren't careful." Placing a finger under his chin, she lifted it pointedly before continuing out of the room.
