the inception cast is like this game's big bang
He was difficult and taciturn, but there was something in him Gwen recognized immediately, something that made looking for another man or woman to spend her life with totally unthinkable. One date became two, a night spent at one flat or another became weekend trips and before she knew it, Tom was leaving the country on an offer to practice medicine in a prominent clinic in Canada and she agreed to move with him. They were married after about a year, despite the ups and downs of their relationship. They were both brilliant people who handled the world in their own ways, Gwen told herself. That was bound to lead to some rough patches.
In Montreal, something strange happened to Tom. He went skiing one weekend when Gwen had grades to make and was apparently involved in an avalanche. He was put in the hospital, then into the psychiatric ward due to some head trauma. She was distraught over his injuries and visited every day. He was held under observation for about a month, then returned home. Tom was almost catatonic for some few months after, but Gwen never gave up. When he finally did return to her, he was kinder, more appreciative than she could recall him ever being before.
Their marriage was on steady ground from that point forward. After a year or so, though, Tom let on that there was something seriously medically wrong with him. He had always been private, but the fact that he had been hiding seizures from his wife was appalling. What was more, he apparently thought he had the ability to read other people's minds. Gwen tried to treat him with respect and understanding, but she truly believed that the head injury he'd sustained had driven him crazy. When he took her face in his hands and told her every single thought that came into her mind, Gwen insisted that was only possible because they were so close. It took months for him to convince her and by the time he did, it was becoming too late.
Gwen watched Tom waste away in front of her eyes. Because of his ability to read minds, he knew who to stay away from, when to tell his wife that it was time to pack up and move to a new city. They stayed completely off of AM's radar until the side-effects of Tom's powers became too much to deal with. He should have been put into a coma, but by the time AM found him, he was dying. Putting him in a coma then would only stave off the inevitable. It was a long goodbye for Gwen, watching Tom slowly slip away. Towards the end, he nearly lost himself completely, hiding in other people's thoughts in order to avoid facing his own death. But one day, as she talked to him when he was heavily sedated, primping his pillows and fixing his hair, Tom woke up and told her he knew what was coming, and he knew how to keep fighting it.
She loved him for his stubbornness, his unchanging opinions. Of course Gwen agreed to do whatever he wanted. It was his final wish, after all. He told her that, if she let him, he could use his powers to put his mind, his memories, his consciousness, inside hers. He could stay with her and live on. It was a relatively quick process, only possible because he had learned how to control his power so extensively and because of the close bond he and Gwen shared. She didn't feel anything at all once it was over, she just watched the light fade from her husband's eyes. He stayed alive for a few months, but she knew he was already gone.
