Character name: Mackenzie Martens Age: 30 Profession: Knight Templar
Power, if applicable: Ditto.
Shapeshifting: by touching the skin, blood, hair or other genetic material of a living thing, Mackenzie can become a genetic replica of that thing. If someone has a genetic disorder and she shifts into them, she will inherit that disorder. Likewise, if someone has a power, she will inherit that as well. Part of her training included shifting into people with various abilities so that if she found herself in a situation where she had to use those abilities, she would at least be familiar with them. Similarly, she routinely shifted into animals in order to get accustomed to the sensation of heightened and/or deadened senses. This only works with the last person or animal she touched and does not include clothing.
Where do they live?: Templar house.
Personality: Strong-minded, sometimes to a fault, Mackenzie is someone who is definitely comfortable in her own skin. What with having a job that requires her to take on multiple identities, she has to be if she wants to stay true to herself. At the core, Mackenzie is a bright, independent individual who likes to see results. She's not a perfectionist, but she does expect a certain level of achievement in whatever goal she may set out to do and can be overly hard on herself if she doesn't meet it. On the flip side, she's more resilient than not and tends to bounce from set backs on her own fairly well. Her time with the Templars has increased her ability to adapt quickly to situations as they arise and the expectations put on her because of her ability to shape shift have increased her flexibility in terms of acting, but it is not something she defines herself by. Stepping into another person's role is an individual job which she leaves the moment the need for it is over.
While she's no Tasmanian Devil, there is no denying that Mackenzie has a mean temper. In general, she has a lower threshold for annoyances than your Average Joe and when something really angers her, there ratio of passive to aggressive is highly in the latter's favor. The Templars have tried to have her manage her anger through physical exercise and mental concentration, but Mackenzie will never be a Mother Teresa. She has a low tolerance for BS, which sounds a little odd considering the number of years she and her ex-partner danced around each other, but the area of love is something even Mackenzie has come to understand as nigh impossible to make sense of.
Mackenzie has a misplaced competitive streak- she'll participate in sports or a game for the exercise and fun, but it's second-hand competitions that will rile her up. Talent shows are trainwrecks for her. Despite knowing that nine times out of ten, judges tend to pick the less talented person (in her opinion, which leaves her fuming or making rude gestures at the screen) to advance, she'll still tune in to watch- unless all the talented ones (again, in her opinion) are sent home. Also, she's a risk-taker, though that goes without saying since she waltzes solo into potentially dangerous situations as a living...
The death of two comrades, one of whom she had once loved very much and still had lingering feelings for, proved more shocking than the discovery of an invisible peeper or an organization working behind the scenes of the world. She hasn't quite recovered yet, but she's trying to keep it all inside as best as possible. The first week was the worse- zombie-like, waking up as her ex-partner, scaring the lights out of her team mates.. She has some of his hair in a small vial. It creeps even her out, but Mackenzie can't bring herself to get rid of it.
