Character name: Benjamin (Benji) Quinn Age: 29 Profession: Psychologist (specializes in Parapsychology)
Power, if applicable: N/A
Where do they live?: Victory, WA
Personality: Benji is friendly but friendless, compassionate but entirely disinterested in personal relationships. He views himself and the world as separate entities. He's on his own team, the only companion he'll ever need. Everyone else is there to be observed, to learn from. He's not cold or clinical in his observations, but he puts a distance between himself and the rest of the world. It's a friendly boundary. Part of it is shyness - although he's content with his own company, he has very little confidence in himself. He knows he's intelligent, nice, even fairly good-looking, but he also knows he's terribly awkward, socially phobic, clumsy, and to an extent, ridiculous. He talks like an eighty-year-old man instead of the twenty-something little boy he is, and has spoken that way since he was in elementary school (at first it was cute, but as he grew older the label changed to 'pretentious'). Outside of professional situations (where work and his own interests are concerned, he has no problem speaking to other people) he's both awkward and uncomfortable, always mentally berating himself for saying the wrong things. He takes others' opinions of him very seriously.
When it comes to patients, Benji steps up his game. It's easy for him to switch his mindset when confronted with a patient or a problem, and with his wards he's collected and friendly, sympathetic. He has an excellent memory and endless patience. People are a puzzle he can help solve, and he likes doing it. He's not easily discouraged and will persist with a patient until they're both satisfied. Benji is extremely concerned with seeming professional, given his young age, and he goes to great lengths to avoid letting his patients come to know him as anything but their doctor. His flaws should never be part of the equation, and he's ashamed that, as a psychologist, he has them in the first place. He tries to hide them by being as encouraging and friendly as possible. Dealing with patients with powers is especially exciting to him, and he likes to emphasize that they're gifted rather than abnormal, and takes great lengths to understand everything about their abilities.
Given his awkwardness, it's not unusual for Benji (both in college and at AM) to be the butt of practical jokes. His sense of humor is simple at best, and it generally takes him a while to realize when someone is making fun of him.
