Background: Born to a Dutch mother and an Englishman, Eikleigh is one half to a set of fraternal twins and the second youngest of five children - the three older ones being boys. Their family grew up without much incident in Holland where her mother was a stay-at-home mother who moonlighted as a private seamstress (with her own handmade label) and her father was an architect in a large company.
From a young age, Eikleigh showed a distinct passion for ballet. Like her sister, they counted classical ballet as part of their learning repertoire from a young age. This included an instrument of their choice and hers was the piano. Eikleigh devoted substantial amounts of time to both artforms though her heart clearly lay within the realms of dance. As soon as she was eligible, she auditioned several times to the Royal Ballet School in the UK and Ballet School of the Royal Danish Theatre. Unfortunately, her passion could not make up for the lack of talent. While she was technically sound, Eikleigh's auditions never quite made the cut. In the end, her parents decided it was best for their child to pursue a normal education.
She did so without much protest, though she did lament her failure to gain admission. It was a cruel thing to have your dream broken again and again. Nevertheless, Eikleigh carried on and the topic of dance (at least on her part) never came up again within the family. After obtaining her high school diploma, she worked as a piano teacher and occasional tutor for a period of time, earning enough to get by. To be honest, Eikleigh wasn't sure what she wanted to do, but this seemed enough for now. When she coudn't get jobs, she helped her mother out with her little tailoring business.
On her free days, she'd travel out with her siblings, grabbing a coffee or just to play general catch up. They had cast their nets farther away and met with varying levels of success. She was on her way out with her sister to meet their second brother when she collapsed on the street. Eikleigh was feverish, battling high temperatures before slipping into a coma that lasted several days. When she awoke, she was disoriented and out of sorts. The last thing she remembered was turning the corner and... nothing else. The doctors gave her a clean bill of health - despite the obvious medical condition she just awoken from, which they attributed to some sort of medical miracle.
She wasn't sure of what was happening at first - no one was. Eikleigh suddenly couldn't touch something or anyone without being flooded with images and sounds and voices. It was like an extreme case of deva ju - several, in fact. She became disoriented easily, unsure of whether she was dreaming or not, if it was real or in her head but whatever it was, it was hard to keep out. Everything hurt and the migraines and body tremours that accompanied these episodes were getting harder and harder to bear.
Eikleigh would have, in all instances, been committed to a mental institute had her mother not protested as vehemently and passionately as only a mother would. They consulted several professionals and referrals upon referrals did little to help her case. They chanced upon a private neurologist - just been back from the States, he recalled a former colleague who suffered something similar too. With nothing to lose, Eikleigh flew out to Victory to meet this doctor.
She's been in the States for awhile now, working quietly with the doctor towards learning how to control her abilities. Eikleigh's learned that as long as she stays careful, it won't be triggered so easily. Higher level abilities are a different story. The more she tries to use and control them, the harder the aches are to deal with. As her doctor moves her up to stronger medications to deal with it, she is sure her body is starting to wear down. Eikleigh isn't sure how long she'll be able to live like this and it isn't something she likes to think about.
