FAQ
How many characters are allowed per person?
For each fandom, you are allowed 5 unique characters, including parallel/alternate universe versions, or OCs, with the maximum number of characters you can have in game being 25. We allow there to be a total of 5 of the same character in the game at once.
What if my fandom has multiple versions of the same character. For example, Hawaii 5-0 68 vs 2010?
Exceptions to the "this character is already taken" rule will be considered preferentially, at the discretion of the mods, on the basis of canon characters being identifiably different. For example, the first Doctor (Doctor Who) would not handle things in the same way as the seventh Doctor, both of whom would be played by different actors.
My character is a reimagining of an existing one (Addams Family animated vs Live Action). Can I still play the character even though it is taken elsewhere?
Yes. However, you must use a different PB to the one used by the existing version of your character. For example,if you play the Ultimate Marvel version of Professor Xavier, you cannot use either Patrick Stewart or James McAvoy.
My character is played by the same actor as another. Can I use the same PB?
If your character is a canon one, yes. However, once again they must be identifiably different from the other role.

Applications for original characters using a PB that already exists in game will be approved or rejected at the discretion of the mods.

When my character arrives in Arcane City what happens?
You will arrive within a mile of the Welcome and Information Center where, after allowing you some time to acclimatize, a representative will present you with a welcome packet, before guiding you to the house that will become your home for the duration of your stay here. (This will occur off camera, though you are of course welcome to RP the acclimatization.)

Characters receive a cell appearing in their pocket or bag. Your character will realize their phone is beeping. The message instructs them to go to the Welcome and Information Center and the location. Additionally you'll find a credit card with a little money loaded on it to get you started.

This is also where you can apply for work, or submit an application to start your own business. (You can either do this "off camera", or actively RP your character going through the process of applying for work/a business, before filling out the actual form. (OOC in the businesses post). You can view housing assignments here to see which house will be yours and who, if anyone, you will be rooming with. Jobs and job availability, as well as details of businesses, can be found here
Are there community-wide plots and if so do I have to participate?
Yes. There are community-wide plots based on the theme of the month, suggested activities and mini-arcs for you to use in your threads. These will primarily be set by the mods, however if you have any suggestions for any of the tread choices you can mention them to us in the dropbox and we will consider them. You may be needed for an important role in a thread. (we will discuss with you, during the plot planning, if we are considering giving one or more of your characters important roles, a mod will check with you ensuring you're okay with that.)

On occasion, there will be posting challenges, different from plot threads. These will be set solely by the mods. There is no obligation to take part in posting challenges, but it would be awesome if you do, as it keeps the game active and fresh.
What possessions will my character have when he/she arrives?
Your character(s) will arrive in Arcane City only with the clothes on their backs, and any items they happen to be carrying with them at the time. New clothes fitting the style of your character(s) will waiting for them in their new home. They will also find a credit card. This will be in one of your character's pockets, or in their bag if they arrived with one, Other items can be added as per any arrangements between you and the mods.

Your character(s) will also find themselves in possession of a cellphone. This will instantly connect you to the network, and will also allow you to call or text anyone else in the city. However you will not be able to use it to communicate with anyone outside of the city. The cellphone will have the numbers of the other residents pre-loaded, and numbers will be remotely added and removed accordingly as other characters come and go.

Your character will know something is going on because a phone appears in their bag or on their person. Their phone is beeping, and the message instructs them to go to the Welcome and Information Center including its location.
Is the time frame of the game (month, day, year) the same as present day?
While the game is set in the far future, the passage of time within the fictional setting of the cave does, for the most part, reflect that of real life, however, once a thread has been started, the passage of time will remain consistent with the amount of time that would usually pass during the conversation and/or events that take place within that thread, unless otherwise indicated by those taking part. E.g., if a week has passed since the thread was started, but the events within that thread would, in reality, occur over just two days, then only two days would have passed when that thread is closed.
Additionally, since the cave is trapped within the time bubble, which is keeping it and everyone/thing within it, in the year 3518, the start of a new year in real life will, in the world of AC, be matched by a reset of the time loop and the starting of the same year (3518) for the inhabitants of the cave.

The only exception to this is with those characters who possess time-travel abilities or technology, such as the Doctor. These characters will be able to travel through time, but cannot travel back any further than the moment the interdimensional fissures were opened, or beyond the time bubble that surrounds the immediate environs beyond the cave's entrance.
Do I need to tag my posts/threads/scenes?
Within the network and log comms, absolutely! Your posts, threads and scenes must be tagged with the name of your character(s), and any other characters who take part in them. This makes it easier for the mods and other members to see who has posted/commented, and to find posts, threads and scenes they have tagged in on. You are not required to tag your OOC posts, but you may do so if you wish to.

Your character's tag will be provided in the welcome message you receive when you submit your application. Tags can only be set by maintainers, so if there is a tag missing, feel free to let us know through the dropbox, and it will be added.
Different communities prefer different headers to the logs. What is the standard here?
You're fine as long as the usual info below is included:

Who: (Who is involved in the thread, including characters joining later)
What: (What is happening, what are the characters doing)
Where: (Where will the thread be taking place)
When: (When does the thread take place)
Status: (Is the thread open or closed, ongoing or complete)
Rating: (Is it family friendly or mature content.)
Please add a trigger warning for any content that make trigger another player.

You may use the basic template below if you want:
Are characters under the age of 18 allowed?
Characters under the age of 18 are allowed. However, if they've come without their canon parents or guardians, they'll be assigned a guardian for the duration of their stay here, or until a canon guardian comes in.

The app form has a section that asks if you would like to be a guardian for a character under 18. We are also considering a pool of volunteer guardians, to make it easier to see who is willing to take on unsupervised characters under 18. Watch this space for more news on that.
What if my initial entry in a log or network post is lengthy?
Just as triggers and adult content threads are placed under an lj cut tag,, so should lengthy posts. For a list of commonly used lj HTML tags we have provided a reference for you Here.

The most common tags are bold, the a href linking to another website or post, snd adding a picture, which is the img scr code. You may have to scroll down the provided reference page above to locate each code.
