Hi there! I'm the new kid, Callirhoe. A bit about me -- I'm 22, a resident of Minnesota (and thus of the US Central time zone), a recent college graduate with only the vaguest of plans for my future involving more school and probably ending up teaching in some form. I have an English BA, focusing on medieval and Renaissance literature and on translation (my bachelor's thesis was a bunch of translations of German poems from the 13th/14th centuries, so, you know, I am an ultra-nerd). I've been involved in RPG on IJ for about two and a half years, and I've been an X-Men fan since I was small and would steal comic books from my older brother, but this is actually my first Marvel game, so treat me gently, please. :) Oh, and I'm rarely on AIM, so e-mail is the best way of contacting me, followed by commenting me at my CDJ, [info]callirhoe.

I bring in Mr. Moody Loner Extraordinaire, Kevin Ford, codename Wither. His full profile can be found here, but in brief, he's a troubled child who doesn't really like being around people, with a Tragic Past and a severely messed-up psyche. His mutation is a "death touch" -- if he touches anything organic with his bare skin (including living things, plants, food, wooden things, most fabrics, etc.), it immediately begins to decay, and within a matter of seconds it will be nothing more than a pile of dust. This is a freaky power that he hates, particularly since he accidentally killed his father just after it manifested, and yet it has a draw and he feels that it wants him to use it. Cue angst and self-loathing in spades. Because of this, he fears getting too close to anyone else in case he hurts them, too, and tends to stay to himself, keep his head down, and avoid being noticed. He does have more than a bit of a temper and will lash out verbally when he gets into a funk, and is downright nasty at times. Kevin's not a bad kid at heart, though, and he'd really like more than anything to be normal. He's very creative, loves art, and is often to be found drawing, painting, or (his favorite) metalworking at his own little workstation in the garage. If caught at the right moment, he can be civil and deal with people okay, as long as they don't try to get too close or touch him. Oh, and he's been around for nearly a year, and while the first few months were really rough, he's settled down a bit.

So, yes, that's Kevin! Please enjoy, or not, as you choose. I know it's difficult coming into a game with an antisocial character, but I will definitely make the effort to get to know your characters even if he won't, and I'd love any connections you'd like to throw at me. Those he's pissed off or who have pissed him off in the past? People who will further lower his self-esteem in their own particular idiom? People who are nice to him even though he's not that nice back? Maybe even (gasp!) a friend or two who can deal with his personality? He's got some canon connections I'd love to explore as far as possible, too, but we can get to those when we get to them.

Hello, Samma! Nice to meet you. :) Well, I hate to be all depressing about my English BA, but I've been unemployed since this past summer. (Part of that, I'm sure, was just that I graduated at a really awful time.) I don't regret studying English, but depending on what you want to do after school, you're probably going to need to go on and get further education. Most of the people I went to school with are now getting MFAs/MAs/teaching certificates/etc. But an English major is really worth it, I think! It teaches you things that are applicable across the spectrum, and you can definitely succeed wherever you want to go. Follow your dreams, and so on and so forth. :)

Since Kevin is friends-ish with Rogue, I doubt he's looking too kindly on Remy just now. :P He's also extremely envious of him, because it's just not fair that one person can be that disgustingly charming and good with the ladies and have a cool power to boot. NOT FAIR. In a weird way, though, I don't think he'd hate Remy as much as he'd hate people like Bobby and Josh. Kevin might find him actually tolerable, oddly enough, and I agree that they've probably had some sort of interaction as... garage buddies. Or something. :)

Kevin is sort of creeped out by Nessa, to be honest, because it's freaky that she could be anybody and he'd never know it was her. Stalking would be interesting! He's pretty sensitive to people paying attention to him and he hates it, so he'd probably notice and tell her off for being interested in him -- he'd think that she sees him as a freak-show trainwreck, like he sees himself, and he'd get up in arms about that.

He'd NOT LIKE Jay. I can see him being turned off by the angst, because in his mind the kid has a pretty good situation in life and he has no reason to get torn up about stuff. (Kevin is no good at being empathetic; this is not a shock, I am willing to bet. :P)

And Sean... I don't know how Kevin would react to him, actually! I tend to think he'd have been wary of him at first, but as he adjusted to the new setting and being around people again, he might have warmed up to Sean a bit, and I can see him going to him to talk a little, maybe. He'd be very guarded even in counseling, and he wouldn't talk about the most painful issue (his father's death), but maybe he'd talk about his feelings about his power and get help working through that? That would be very good for him, I think.

Thanks for the welcome! :)

Well, teaching certificate is next on my list. Along with pestering the hell out of every young adult publisher I can get an address for. I do love all the English classes I've had, though. We always scope out the much broader spectrum.

Remy just had all the luck in the looks and power department! XD Stole the luck from everyone else, I'm sure. Remy's making himself pretty damn unpopular, especially with the guys and Rogue's friends, right now. But he refuses to see it and will continue to interact with everyone as if nothing's different. Kevin might be able to find Remy really down in the garage at some point - he's really torn up about it all, but refuses to let it show, so only gets down when he's alone. Kevin might get to see both sides! (I need to stop rambling about Remy. Sorry. XD He makes me terribly happy.)

3/4 the mansion is creeped out by Nessa, so he's in good company there. She'll definitely be around the halls watching him - especially during Spring Break this coming week! She's under house and power arrest, so she'll have nothing better to do. Prepare to be followed!

Such a shock! XD Jay will probably keep mostly to himself, unless Paige recruits him to talk to Kevin, in which case he'll pout at her but try.

Yay! Sean would love that. He'd definitely take extra time with Kevin, doing everything he can to get him to feel comfortable enough to talk to him. He's very patient, and willing to make office hours any time, even in the middle of the night or the middle of classes.

You're quite welcome (for the welcome)!
