Megan jumped slightly at the voice. She had been so lost in thought she had heard anyone come up.
She sat up and wiped the tears from her eyes before looking to see who spoke. It was Jay. They had class together, but never really spoke outside of it, which Megan always found weird since their mutations were very similar.
"I'm ok." She was slightly jealous of Jay this week. He had his brother and sister at school with him and his mother was here. She couldn't help but envy him, when his family was so close by. It made her a little reluctant to confide in him. She didn't think he could understand what it's like to be far from his family since they were right here.
But then again, she hadn't seen his father. His family seemed very close, so it was a little odd that he would be absent. Maybe he had to watch the other children or had to work. Or maybe he was out of the picture. Maybe seeing the other kids with their fathers made Jay miss his own? Maybe he would understand.
"It's just...I miss my mum, and seeing everyone with their families makes me miss her even more."
