Vanessa shook her head, laughing. "When you're back in your body, stick to sneakers. Please." Ness had seen some weird things in Boston. And she knew from experience, then, that guys just looked strange in heels. "I mean, this is admirable and all, but it might be a little weird when you're not in Miss Frost." There was a beat. "In Miss Frost's body! Swapped!" She flushed again as she tried to save how her words came out, laughing faintly and shaking her head. How did Terry manage from day to day, not being able to hide that? There were a lot of things Nessa liked to keep hidden, in her mind and on her facial expressions.
She chuckled when he teetered, but the amusement vanished when Julian brought his hand up. Was he feeling all right? He insisted he was merely dizzy... "You aren't that much higher up," she said, but Julian's other hand was on her shoulder, and she was distracted by that warm feeling. "All right, take a minute, let me help you steady, and then let's try and walk it off," she suggested. With his hand on her shoulder, she reached out, placing a steadying hand on Julian's opposite shoulder and the other on his now rather defined waist. The need to move would probably be automatic, she hoped, so she looked back up at him. "Ready? You're probably going to feel like you're falling forward, but you'll get used to the momentum. Once you get going, just remember to keep that posture straight. Trust me when I say it's no fun to fall head over heels, literally." He gave a chuckle, and Vanessa was still blissfully unaware of the psychic intrusion. But then he suddenly looks a bit... unhappy. He was the one who had been so gun-ho about this, and she was giving him a good piece of warning. "Don't worry," she said quickly, "I'm here. I'll make sure you don't wipe out like that. Promise."
Then Julian started speaking, and at first it was the weirdest nonsequitor Ness ever heard. She tilted her head to the side. Was he that far back in the conversation? The heels would look weird on him. He continued to make even less sense, though, and Nessa's mind reeled as she tried to keep up. 'We don't have to make it weird' seemed like a really familiar phrase. It was used a lot in romances, wasn't it? She'd contemplated something similar not too long ago...
Oh! No! He wouldn't, would he? Before she could finish catching up, he had opened his eyes and was wobbling. Her suspicions had to be put on hold, even though now it was starting to make sense. His closed eyes, intense concentration, apparent not listening to her, his distraction. No, no. She wanted to just be overly paranoid. And she had other things to worry about. Namely, keeping Julian on his feet. Then she could wonder what the heck he was on about. She grabbed at him, pulling him back forward in an attempt to keep him from teetering, but pulled the momentum forward. Good in heels or not, if he lost his balance going forward, Ness would definitely be hitting the ground under him. "What wouldn't be weird?" she asked sharply, even as they teetered back and forth.
