Sofia was talkative, that much Laurie had gathered, but it didn't bother her much. The more Sofia talked the less she had to, which suited Laurie just fine. She nodded, replying kindly, "I've never been to either place." She paused once more before cautiously asking, "Why... would people think you're from Mexico? I mean... Venezuela... is not even right next to Mexico..." Laurie trailed off, always unsure of herself. She loved geography and was fairly certain she new where both locations were, but became self-conscious once she started talking.
Laurie reached for the first three colors, and stopped when Sofia changed her mind. Quickly finding the right colors, Laurie cut the strings to the right length, explaining, "Okay... you want them to be about twice the length of your arm... and there we go." Laurie quickly tied it off in the middle for Sofia, and then handed the threads six threads- now with two threads of each color- to Sofia. "So... you'll... want to follow me." Laurie took her own thread and showed Sofia how to tie each knot off, saying, "You'll want to make a pattern... so start with this one," Laurie paused a moment as she pointed at the dark purple thread, "And tie it around all the others in the order you want the pattern to be in. So if you like dark purple, light purple, and white, you'll tie the dark purple around the light purple, then the white, then the second dark purple, the second light purple, and the second white thread." Laurie went quiet, not used to talking this much offline and waiting for any questions Sofia might have.
