Betsy would always push herself, especially for her friends. And guys she might or might not be interested in. But right now for a friend, or so she would argue. "Sure thing, mate. Let's give it a go. If you seem to already have done it before I'm sure you'll be a real natural at it!" She caught his surprise, and shrugged her shoulders, stating, "Well, I haven't had anyone around that I would need to guard meself against. And even if I did, it's not real fair that just because I don't have control I should be allowed to pry and then hide away me thoughts." The rationale made sense to her- though she was more than capable of hiding her emotions against certain other guarded telepaths at their school. And those emotions she really didn't want anyone else to feel, but that was a completely different story.
Shifting her body so she was facing Jono more directly, she put out her hand, ready to take it back in case Jono decided against doing the training this way. "Initially it's easier if you're touching the person you're trying to get a read on. I think it's something about forming a channel to focus on? Something like that. Anyway, whenever you're ready, I'll focus on one emotion and you can tell me if you can feel it. I'll be reaching out slightly to you at first as well, but I won't read your mind, promise. Closing your eyes might help too." Being blind made focusing easier for Betsy- she used to have to close her eyes quite often to focus completely. Now she could instantly center her attention on her happiness at having someone she could relate to and let her emotion reach out slightly to Jono, trying not to intrude but making it easier for him to connect with the emotion.
