There are moments that define all of us; they leave us breathless and weak or give us the strength to keep going...to keep living. Jean Grey, daughter of the prestigious Doctor Grey and his lovely wife, experienced both in her short life time and had no idea of how many more she would face as a mutant and future Professor. Right now, she was silent, waiting for the veil to rise and bring light back into her shadowy world and save her from the voices echoing in her head...her friend's screams, pain forever etched into her mind...it left her blank. Her parents didn't know what to do and last minute that sent her to Professor Xavier, a man they were told could save their precious, little girl's life...they had no idea he would change it forever. They had no idea how powerful their little girl was...
The red head hovered near the door, green eyes staring blankly ahead, figure frozen in a Sunday school dress and small black shoes, polished to perfection by her mother and white tights to set off the perfect innocent look. She didn't notice what she was wearing though, she didn't notice who was around her...or those that spoke in hushed tones around her. Her friend...her friend had died and she had been there...it traumatized her and left her catatonic. Was there anything anyone could do here? Could he help her? Jean, unknowingly, picked up on the thoughts of her parents as they waited patiently to see the man that would save her. They were told he was a powerful psychologist and could bring her back from the abyss that was now her reality. Jean didn't know what to make of this all, she was still trapped and the words reached her and bounced off the bubble created by the agony her friend had faced in her final moments on Earth. God..why couldn't she save her?
"You have to help her...please," her mother's voice whispered from the other side, tugging at her consciousness before she fell back down the hole. "I can try..." the voice scared her, frightened her as she suddenly felt a pull on her mind...a soft something whispering her that it was alright...that she could come back...
"Hmmm..." The first mumblings in weeks and her emerald eyes focused beneath her bangs, falling on the clear ones of the bald man before her, the voices quieted...her friend's pain dulled slowly. She felt the light, the warmth from his hand gripping her own, the sounds of the other students...the smell of lilacs in the air. She was alive...she was alive...
