Who: Kevin and Remy When: Saturday, 16 May 2009, late morning. Where: In the garage, where else? What: SECRET ORIGINS: first meetings. In which Kevin hates everyone and Remy is characteristically charming.
Despite having been in residence at Xavier's school for nearly a month, Kevin hadn't really met very many people here. There was his roommate Kurt, some of the teachers who'd given him classwork to complete but mostly left him alone as long as he finished it, some of his classmates who'd tried to talk to him, and that was about it. Aside from visits to Xavier and Summers and to the infirmary for tests, he'd mostly stayed in his room and had few visitors. After over a year of living in a makeshift shelter in his junkyard and never even talking to another human being, it was a huge adjustment to be living in this place, with four walls and a roof and furniture and everything. Not to mention all the people here. He was adjusting, but it was slow going.
Professor X had come to see him with an idea to at least get Kevin out of his room and interacting with the rest of the school a bit. There was a corner in the garage, he'd told him, that was set up for a metals workshop but wasn't in use. He'd offered Kevin the chance to set it up any way he wanted, offered a generous budget for the tools he needed. Kevin had missed the "art" he'd done back in the scrapyard -- "art" being what Xavier had called his scrap-metal sculptures, even if Kevin himself didn't think it was worthy of the name. It made him feel better, anyway, so he'd accepted the offer. Thus, he was out here with a pile of stuff one of the professors had bought for him somewhere, currently engaged in building a rack to hang different gauges of wire. He still had barely spoken during his time here, but for the first time, he was feeling as though there might be a place for him at this school after all. He was totally engaged in what he was doing, hammering in supports for the rack, and so he didn't even hear the door open on the other side of the garage.
