Regan, however, was not as forgiving or willing to forgive as Charles Xavier. Laura's submission triggered something in her already twisted morality which gave her the green light to decimate her enemy. The thick substance crept up X-23's body, and Regan hoped to swallow her within it and end this 'nightmare' via asphyxiation. The vengeful side of her flared, seeking retribution for the damage Laura caused her. She wanted the other girl to struggle for air, to really feel what she had to go through, when each breath felt like the last.
Then she heard Xavier's voice enter her mind, and a sudden feeling of relief washed over her. Help was on it's way? For real? Truly? The professor's words snapped Regan out of her dream-like daze, but the realization that this was all really happening freaked her out even more. She piked in tighter, closing her eyes to try and will all of this away. It was almost easier and less scary if it had been a bad dream... but reality? Reality she couldn't handle.
Her illusions were attuned to her will, and the harder she thought the worse they became. The tar was creeping up and over Laura's body now at a rapid pace. If Xavier didn't get here in time, Regan would simply engulf her whole.
