who: Rahne and John when: Friday after class where: Hallway what: Rahne was grading creative writing pieces for Dr. McCoy and stumbled upon John's work. She's his first fan and wants to try and encourage his talent.
Reading and grading papers was a tedious task. Rahne had always expected it to be even as a student, but now working as a Teacher's Assistant under Dr. McCoy in his English class she was realizing how true it really was. A lot of the essays were mildly interesting, but mostly they were lacking in conviction and riddled with grammar and punctuation mistakes. It had only been a few weeks and Rahne could already spot a paper that had been spell checked on a computer versus spell checked by the human eye.
When Rahne came to a creative writing assignment written by John Allerdyce, her first encounter with him as a writer, she was expecting more of the same. The junior class was notoriously bad at paper writing. But as she sipped her diet soda and read, Rahne was immediately hooked and fascinated by John's diction. He had a real poetic use of word choice and had such a heart that Rahne had honestly never even detected a hint of from real life. It wasn't super obvious in what he was saying, but Rahne could catch it as an experienced reader from the way he was writing it. It was easily the best thing she had read in her time helping Dr. McCoy. She passed it along and he graded it and Hank went about his way, but not Rahne. Her mind dwelled on John's work.
After class ended for the weekend on Friday, Rahne left earlier than normal instead of holding back to help clean up the room. Satchel over her shoulder, Rahne walked briskly to catch up to one of the students who had left. Rahne wasn't sure why, but she felt compelled to talk to John now. If only to praise his work, if not size him up to see if he had really written his assignment. "E-excuse me! John?"
