Who: Sam Winchester and Castiel What: A not-so-chance chance meeting Where: Lawrence, Kansas When: This weekend Warnings: Will update.
Sam needed fresh air, simple as that. He'd left without a word to Ruby, but it wasn't the first time and it probably wouldn't be the last. Sam realised he was more like his father than he cared to admit, and one thing he couldn't deny was the restlessness. But hey, at least he didn't have any kids trailing along behind him, unable to put down roots or ever feel like they belonged.
Sam sighed, shook his head, stuffed his hands in his pockets, and kept walking. The evening breeze betrayed the heat of the day, and ruffled lightly through Sam's hair. Sam usually made a point to keep his hair out of his face, but tonight he wasn't paying any attention. he had other things on his mind.
It didn't take long to find Castiel. He had known the angel well enough back in the day, before Lucifer, before Sam had spent time in the pit, and he could usually find Cas if he put his mind to it. Some things never changed, and the angel's patterns were fairly predictable. The only two questions were, why was he hunting Cas anyway, and how did he want to handle it now that he'd found him?
Sam had checked in on Dean quite often in the years since Lucifer, but he had never revealed himself to his brother. He'd wanted Dean to have a chance at a normal life, and Sam knew that would never happen if Sam was part of Dean's life. So he'd stayed away. He'd had no contact with anyone from his past, save Ruby. So why was he approaching Castiel now?
"Hey, Cas," he said casually, as if meeting a neighbor in the grocery store. Meeting an angel in the darkness, under cover of trees, was anything but normal.
