"I think anything world changing on that grand a scale changes priorities," Remus clarified with a tiny smile. "Perhaps, not even changes, but puts them into perspective. I'm not disagreeing that Hogwarts and the community are what you protect. But, we slip all the time just hiding from humans. From machines we know nothing about? Without interacting with the Resistance, aiding them in the fight, how long would the magical world survive when it knows nothing of the machines' satellites or heat sensors or the myriad of other technological advantages? Our magic seems able to counter it now, but only because we're here with people who know what we need to counter. I think survival would depend on both magical and muggle working together. At least the leadership communicating."
Chuckling, he turned his head against the wall to look at Draco. "That's a shame. There's nothing as refreshing as just standing in an empty field, eyes closed, face turned to the sun with the wind on your face. But, that's my point. I don't know if it's because the magic isn't here, or if it's so diluted because of the destruction here. There was no difference up in the hills, although I wasn't paying exact attention on that trek." Sighing, he thought for a moment. "You start small. That fight for survive, the shared experience of helping humanity carry on becomes the basis. Once survival is more stable, you share the memories you've preserved in your heads, write them down so they aren't lost. You find the pieces of society that are left be they books or film rolls or sheet music and you share and preserve those. You create new ones, new stories, new songs, new memories. It will take time and effort, but the only way to counter destruction is with creation, along with sharing and teaching and learning."
Remus laughed softly. "Let's not kill anyone, if we can help it. Have you tried layering it? The cooling layer, then a layer of air that acts like a cushion between the cold and people?"
