Who: Pansy and OPEN
When: Afternoon January 22nd
Where: The Barracks
What: Pansy's annoyed with her situation. Who dares speak with her?
Warning: Likely bitchiness.

To say that Pansy was annoyed might've been the greatest understatement of the year. Draco was off caring for Lupin of all people (she would be hard pressed to care much about any Gryffindor, and honestly had only not pressed Draco about it because there were only so many wizards and witches here, despite what she had told him before, and even less from their world), but it still felt wrong somehow to her. Logically, she could mostly think passed the whole separation by House that had been mostly for their schooling, but typically she just didn't understand the stupidly heroic type that Gryffindors tended to be. Nor did she care to figure them out. It wasn't as if any of them had ever tried to figure her out either.

But now she was bored. There wasn't even a good book to read. She couldn't help but wonder where in the world Theo was and she was beyond over the weird little muggle device that kept making noises and vibrating in her pocket. She had refrained from destroying it until she knew what it was, but she didn't really have any urge to bother with it either. She was sure that it wouldn't be necessary in the long run.

Instead she tried to entertain herself by practicing some charms. It wouldn't do to get rusty while she was away from work, even if it turned out Draco was right and she wouldn't remember that she had left when she returned home anyway. At least it helped pass the time.

Ariel made a point of getting to know everyone. Sometimes the introductions were postponed because of special situations or missions, but it was always temporary. She couldn't imagine not knowing the people who would become part of her daily life for the foreseeable future. It was also more important to her to meet the women. There were so few of them, and Merrin had gone home, leaving one less woman, but now they had two more and she was eager to get to know them.

She hadn't found Elizabeth, but she ended up founding Pansy. She approached the other woman with a big smile on her face. "Hi, Pansy. I'm Ariel. I wanted to welcome here. How are you?"

When an entirely too perky ginger woman practically bounced up to her, Pansy could only frown. Mostly she associated people that were that happy (especially considering their current surroundings) as obnoxious, but seeing as she only really knew Draco at this point, she held her tongue. Just because she couldn't imagine enjoying the company of somebody so upbeat didn't mean she couldn't use them to her advantage.

Pasting on a fake smile just a little too late, Pansy turned fully to Ariel. "Thanks. Though I hope we're not here long. This place does nothing for my mood, but I suppose I'm surviving."

"From experience, we always end up being in new realms for three to four weeks, so we're more than halfway through," she said, still smiling. "OH look at you, you're so pretty; you remind me of Alana, one of my sister. She's the second oldest and the most beautiful. Her hair is absolute perfection and the same shade of black as yours."

Ariel looked around and sighed. "It is rather sad that this people have to live like this well after we leave. I wish we could do more for them, but unfortunately, our help is limited to the few weeks we're here. Not that I know what I could do. I'm still limited in what I can do with the gauntlet. I wish I had magic, but alas, I don't."

"Three or four weeks," Pansy practically shouted. She quickly regained her composure, clearing her throat slightly as she pasted the smile back on her face. Seriously though, she was not happy about that piece of information at all. Her smile became more genuine when Ariel complimented her though. "Why thank you, that's so nice of you to say. You are also quite pretty," she replied, managing not to choke on her words. Complimenting people did not come naturally to her, but she had recognized that it was a good way to get people on side, and right now she thought it was best not to rock the boat. She could get back to herself when she wasn't alone in a strange warzone.

Pansy's smile became slightly strained as she tried to pretend that she cared at all about the people here. One thing she was quite aware of was that not everyone had it easy and you couldn't help them all. Also, she just didn't care at all about them. She just wanted to leave. Once back on the bus, she was quite certain she would forget these people even existed. The strain on her face became more apparent at Ariel's mention of not having magic either. It was an impressive feat that she didn't just lose all pretense and just roll her eyes and walk away. "Gauntlet?" she managed to choke out between gritted teeth.

Ariel raised her eyebrows at her reaction. "Did no one tell you before? We're here to help. We can hardly do that if we're only here for a few days." She smiled. "It's true. Alana was always the prettiest of all of us. There are seven of us. Attina is the oldest and the heir to the throne. Then we have Adella, Aquata, Arista and Andrina. I'm the youngest one."

She nodded. "Ursula has magic, she used a lot of Dark magic and she was banned from Atlantica. There are rumors that merfolks had magic, but Father banned all magic. I can still talk to the fish in the sea, though, and I am stronger than humans, but not as strong as I would be in the water." She nodded. "The bus gave me a gauntlet that can revive people, but can also hurt them. The bus does give you random things," she said with a shrug.

"I was told nothing of the sort except that you've already been here longer than a few days. Is there no... faster way to help?" Sweet Merlin, if she had to be here for another couple of weeks, she was liable to blow the place up herself, survivors be damned.

She blinked slightly. Her head was spinning at the prospective of staying in this wasteland for so long and quite honestly, did not care about Ariel's family tree. Somehow, she managed to keep the polite smile on her face. After all, she could hardly fault someone for noticing her beauty, even if it was in relation to some relative that didn't matter in the slightest.

"Wait a second, you had magic and your father banned it?" Pansy was truly shocked at the thought. She remembered Draco mentioning that there was a mermaid amongst them, but although she guessed the mermaid had adapted to land, she didn't think said mermaid would be magicless completely. "I can't imagine someone taking away my magic. It would be like having someone cut off my legs, or gouge out my eyes."

"The bus isn't usually very helpful in telling us what we need to do, so we have to figure out what we need to do. It usually only tells us the first part, and then we're on our own." She put a hand on Pansy's arm. "But don't worry, we are really good at figuring things out, and everyone is helpful."

She nodded. "He banned it, because Ursula used it to hurt people. He can still do magic with the trident, and Attina will be able to when she becomes queen. Sometimes I wonder if I could learn now, but I've never tried."

She chuckled. "It's not terrible when you don't know any different, and besides I didn't really need magic under the sea." She might have gotten her legs without Ursula's help, but then that would require some dark magic." She leaned in and lowered her voice. "Someone took my fins, I survived."

"That hardly seems helpful. I mean if it's insisting we help, maybe it lets us know what exactly we're supposed to be helping with?" Pansy jerked back when Ariel touched her. Even if she really was as friendly as she was trying to be, she most definitely wasn't used to strangers touching her. Letting out a strained huff of laughter, she tried to cover her knee jerk reaction. She cleared her throat and rubbed at the part of her arm that Ariel had touched. "Yes, I'm sure you are."

This crap her father pulled sounded like a load of crap to Pansy. "So one person does something your father doesn't like and he bans everyone else from participating? That hardly seems fair." Or smart, but she actually managed to not say that part. In her estimation, cutting people off of magic when they could use it was as straight line to weakening your people. "People can survive lots of things. Doesn't make it right." Pansy eyed Ariel a bit. She really didn't understand this woman at all.

"As I said, it does tell us at the start and we have a general idea, but we don't get the specifics. Maybe the bus doesn't know it either. Maybe, things change too fast. If there are people actively trying to change reality, the bus won't know how we can fix it until something happens." She had given lots of thought to this, and while no one was asking for her opinion, it didn't mean that she wasn't paying attention.

Ariel frowned at Pansy's reaction. She couldn't imagine why she wouldn't be touched. "Are you all right?" Maybe there was some explanation she should know. "It doesn't really matter. We still have our powers. We don't really need magic unless we're fighting, and when we do, it's his job to defend us. If grandfather Neptune wanted us to have other skills, he would have given it to us."

She smiled. "No real reason to do magic, though. The one time he used it was to fight Ursula who was using Dark magic. If she hadn't, he wouldn't have to fight her. Not that your magic isn't impressive. We just don't need it as much under the sea."

Pansy couldn’t help but huff in annoyance. The very little information she was getting about the bus was not helpful in the slightest. All she really cared about was getting home, or at least getting out of here. Unfortunately, it would seem that the only way to even removed attempt that was to do the bidding of the Conductor. She was starting to understand why Draco had given in to tolerating muggles and not caring if anyone knew about their magic. Pansy had to admit, she did like the idea of all the non-magic users here knowing just how superior she really was. Even still, she was not really keen on the idea being forced to help in these situations, but the fact remained that she didn’t appear to have much of a choice. At least not yet.

So for the time being, she would play the game.

Unable to stop from glaring, she continued to rub at her arm for a moment before recovering herself. “I’m just peachy, thanks.” There’s as a strain of annoyance in her tone, but he managed to put a smile back in place and force herself to relax again. She might have to try avoiding Ariel in the future if she wanted to keep up the pretence of being nice because if she touched her again, she wasn’t sure she could put her mask back in place so easily.

“How can you know you didn’t need it, or at least couldn’t use it to be better if you have no experience in having it?” Pansy was honestly curious this time. She would never understand how people could talk so matter-of-factly about things they admitted they knew nothing about.

Ariel was very confused. She didn't act like she was peachy. She disliked the touch and the kindness, and she was obviously lying, but still smiling, and then she was disagreeing with everything Ariel said, no matter what.

"I know that I made it to now without magic. My father helped me, but Eric and I have been able to rein without any magic. Our people love us, and Tirulia is doing fine, but knowledge is not limited to what I know, but what my people know. We live a very long time. Father is hundreds of years old and Grandfather is a god. He doesn't die. We have lived just fine under the sea with no magic." She had no idea why Pansy thought that they should have magic. Unless they wanted to attack humans, they were fine. "Anyway, I probably should go. If you need anything, let me know."

It was really getting harder and harder for Pansy to not call this woman an idiot to her face, but somehow she managed. Ariel was clearly put out by Pansy not enjoying being touched, which really just served to annoy her further. Who was this woman to think she could just randomly go around touching strangers? Like, know your audience before assuming. It also seemed quite apparent that Ariel was not used to people reacting such as Pansy, but Pansy quite honestly couldn’t care less.

“I didn’t say you hadn’t made it. I said things could be better if you’re overbearing father hadn’t decided things about you’re own self without your permission.” Oh yeah, Pansy was definitely losing the battle to remain even remotely pleasant. But really, to her, the ‘lovely’ little story Ariel was telling her about her dear father sounded just a like a typical male in power. Always thinking they knew better and controlling everyone to their own benefits. And really, if under the sea was such a grand place with no cares or worries, what the hell was Ariel doing here with legs?

The first real smile crossed Pansy’s face when Ariel finally made to leave. “Have a wonderful day!” She plastered on the sarcasm, no longer able to care. Ariel was clearly someone she had no urge to get along with.
