What: Marcus and John need to talk about some things.

Marcus crossed his arms in the cramped work camp areas they called barracks. It was still cramped but far enough away from the prisoners and Derek for now.

He had avoided contact with more Resistance than he ended up talking to. But it was understandable.

"Connor? Hm? What did you want to talk to me about?" Marcus was quiet afterwards. He could probably guess.

John was doing his best to keep tabs on any of the loose ends that could send the timeline spiralling for this world...his own presence in it, included. So, when they were back in the barracks for the night, he decided it was time to have a chat with Marcus about what had happened when they first arrived here on the bus.

"Baum," he muttered as he sat next to Marcus. There wasn't anything like real privacy here, but it was the best they were going to get and he really needed to have this conversation before they ended up in a Resistance basecamp where his name would cause even more trouble. "You can't call me that name here. Baum or John. We don't want to screw up this timeline by giving away to much about my timeline."

"Thank you. It's important no one know who I am," John replied quietly, keeping his voice down so that others wouldn't overhear. "We don't want to mess things up for any version of me that might be in this timeline." He honestly didn't know what a Future John Connor would do if presented with his teenaged self from an alternate timeline running around with a bunch of magicians and superheroes trying to restore the timeline on the say-so of what amounted to metal wearing his mother's face.

"Depends. If we accomplish our first mission and get everyone out, I hope it not only finds out, but realizes that humanity isn't going to go down easily."

John shrugged. "I think it gives us a better spread of knowledge. Our branches are different enough that what I haven't seen, you might have. We're better able to help because we're better prepared."

Laughing, he shook his head. "He was raised that way. It's in the genes. But, he pulled this off once. If we do it now, we can give hope to the people again, reinvigorate their desire to keep going. This is bigger than just one man."

The slow smirk that spread over John's face was at once brilliantly cold and hotly fierce. "If I get my way, that's exactly what's going to happen. Burn it to the ground and salt the earth."

There was still a chance his future self would do his stint here in John's own timeline. Who knew if he'd erased that part of his history jumping into 2027 or merely postponed it. He couldn't count the possibility out, yet. He wouldn't have superheroes and wizards there to help him. He'd have to do it all on his own, hopefully with Kyle at his side. They wouldn't be able to level Century on their own, then. So, if he could do it for the people of this timeline, he would make sure it was done.

"That's what we're doing here, we're going to help this timeline for as long as the bus let's us stay." Chuckling, he shook his head. "Not sure the bus will let you come back to my timeline when it sends me back. But, I appreciate the sentiment."

	Marcus looked back "Good." Marcus tried to let a hint of humor show again "I'm not sure how me helping you in your timeline would mess up your timeline to be honest. Besides, at least whatever I do now to help you here, we'll be part of this history anyway. Marcus shrugged "Plus I doubt Blair knows I'm still alive in my timeline anyway." John snorted softly. He didn't think Marcus could screw up his timeline any more than John himself already had by jumping forward in time. "I don't think the bus cares about anything other than the fact you don't belong there." He turned his head slightly, gaze darkening as he looked at the Conductor, still wearing John's mother's face.

"We're here and we're helping. But, we need to keep our heads down, too. There's probably another me in this world, after all. Maybe even another you. We can help, but we should probably try to keep our names out of their history...or let the versions of us in this world take the credit."

Turning back to Marcus, he smiled. "Then you'll just have to let her know when you get back. Going theory is that the bus will return you back to the moment you left. So, you'll have time."

Marcus blinked "I'd rather we stayed in the background. That way I rather see the other versions get credit.

Marcus raised a eyebrow "Can't say she knows, she doesn't know I can come alive again."

"But true, it's not the end yet."

"I rather not tell my Connor that I visited another John Connor and a new timeline, and wizards and superheroes came to help. Not sure what he'd think."

"Good," John agreed. "Because that's probably the best course of action. Let Steve and the take point here, support 'em from the background." John wasn't as far in the background as he needed to be, talking to Derek on Steve's behalf. But, there was no helping that. John was the best one to do it and only John knew why.

"Did you know you could do that? Before you did, I mean." Cocking his head to one side, he watched Marcus calmly. "She might not know now. But, when you get back, you can tell her."

He laughed softly. "I can wager a guess. He'd think you had been celebrating something a little too hard with whatever you got that passes for alcohol in your world. It's what I'd have thought before arriving myself."

"Whatever is needed, I feel more comfortable in the background."

"I actually never knew that I was able to come alive again in the first place. Skynet awakened me when I "died." I never knew the backup systems in my body could do that.

"Besides, it will be good to see her again eventually."

Marcus cocked a smirk back at the younger John "Seems likely that would happen. Even though any of us are lucky to touch alcohol."

"Then I think we're good. Stay in the background, no more outbursts like when we arrived or using my real name. Maybe keep an eye on Strange, see if you can help him out quietly if you see he's having trouble...if he'll let you" Strange may have an ego the size of Texas and have lost all John's respect when he abdicated leadership, but John wouldn't leave the man hanging if he could help it.

John thought about it for a moment and there were any number of possibilities, but he didn't have enough data and this wasn't the time or place to start wondering what Skynet had done to Marcus. "Well, if you didn't know and she didn't know, it will be a nice surprise for her to see you alive again. And we'll just have to see that we do what we can to to keep you that way."

He chuckled and nodded. "Sounds about right. Okay, I think we've said enough of this out loud for now. I'm going to make my rounds checking in with the others."
