This series of books was truly amazing, Severus thought, thoroughly engrossed in his reading. Even Cross-Species Switches were starting to make sense now. At this rate, he wouldn't be surprised if he easily earned an Exceeds Expectations on his O.W.L. These books even explained all those complicated diagrams Minerva had always drawn on the blackboard -- the ones he could never make heads or tails of before. In fact, the word "amazing" even seemed thoroughly inadequate to describe it all.
Severus was tempted to send a personal thank you note to the author, care of the publishing company, to express his gratitude. Though if he did, he imagined excerpts would end up as part of an advert on the back cover of the next edition. "My Transfiguration had always been dismal," writes Severus Snape of Spinner's End, Manchester. "The Transfinite series had indeed Transfigured my life!" he thought with a smirk. If that happened, Potter would never let him hear the end of it. No, best to stick to quiet gratitude. Much less embarrassing, overall.
He had only just started on the next chapter when he noticed somebody approaching his table. Severus marked his place with a pencil, looking up, eyebrows raised. What was this about?
