Who: James/Remus Where: Boys dorms When: Friday lunchtime
Remus had said he was going to meet them at breakfast. It was unlike him to lie in even on a weekend, let alone a school day, but, desperate for food, they had acquiesced to his request. However, it was now lunchtime and Remus still hadn't shown up for classes. James endured History of Magic with less enthusiasm than usual, sitting on Peter's left while Sirius sat on the right. They seemed to have reached an unspoken agreement that they would tolerate each other's presence for the time being. Sirius still managed to get into trouble without him, aiming a crumpled up peice of parchment at a fellow classmate so boisterously that even Professor Binns noticed. He had to stay back after class.
When the bell rang, James shooed Peter along. "You go to lunch," he said. "Or wait for Sirius. I'll just go check on Moony. Maybe he's taken the day off to write an essay, or something." This was so unlike Remus that it seemed ridiculous, but it was the only plausible explanation James could think of. Remus didn't get sick. He had an astounding metabolism. And the full moon wasn't for another four or five days, yet.
He hurried up to Gryffindor Tower, almost deserted while everyone was at lunch, and up the stairs to the fifth year boys dormitory. Remus' curtains were slightly ajar, and when James peered around them he found that Remus was still in bed. This worried him so much that he pulled the curtains aside and shook Remus roughly. "Moony!" he called. "Moony!"
