Who: Alice Cullen and Caitlen Christienson
Where: Woods somewhere
When: Afternoon
What: Caitlen is trying to get away
Rating: PG at best.
Caitlen needed a break; her head was killing her so she decided to go for a walk out into the woods, something far away from people and civilization. Luckily she was out in the day so nothing of note could hurt her. Backpack on her back the young girl hiked her way to a clearing and found a comfortable spot under a tree, a silent non emotional tree and once she was comfortable she pulled out a book to read.
Alice was in the woods enjoying the cover provided by the trees. She wasn't on a hunting trip, at the moment. She was, however, scouting the area for a future hunting trip. A breeze picked up and the smell of a young human was carried on the wind. She followed the scent, honestly bored out of her mind and hoping this was someone she might be able to strike up a conversation with.
Caitlen had felt the girl coming a mile away, and for once it didn't hurt. Looking up she saw her and canted her head. "W...Wha..Who are you?"
Smiling she answered, "I'm Alice. Nice to meet you."
"Umm okay" Caitlen said as she pulled herself to her feet, somewhat wondering if it was a futile move. "No offense, but...you're not human."
Alice was surprised, "I was many years ago." She answered honestly. "It has been a long time, though"
Caitlen canted her head and studied the girl. "You don't want to hurt me though."
Alice smiled at that, "I certainly don't. I am not one to hurt people unless I have to defend myself."
"So if I sit back down...you won't like rip me limb from limb?" She asked.
Shaking her head no she responded, "No." The smile stayed on her face, genuine and friendly.
Caitlen nodded and sat back down, her knees pulled to her chest and her head resting on her knees. "So why are you out here?"
"I was out scouting for a family trip later," she answered hedging the part about hunting as best as possible. "Wanted to get a feel for the area before we came out."
"W..What kind of family?" She asked suddenly nervous.
"My family, more not humans like me. They don't hurt humans either," Alice told her sweetly.
"Well..You can't be vampires, so..can I ask what are you?" She asked finally curious as she idly rubbed her head
Alice looked at her confused, "You know what vampires are?"
She nodded. "Yeah, my sister is kind of...well just trust me, I know."
"From the sounds of that, you may find it hard to believe we are vampires. We call ourselves vegetarians," she continued in explanation. "We don't feed from humans. Only animals."
"Technically then you couldn't be a vegitarian, because animals are not vegitables." She said with a small smile. "But how are you out in sun? Vampires burn in the sun."
"Mind if I sit," she asked gesturing to a spot a few feet from the girl. "And we don't burn in the sun. At least not any of the vampires I know."
"Sure yeah, not like I could outrun you at this point anyway." She said. "And well thats obvious, but how is that possible?"
Taking a seat Alice answered, "Many of the things humans believe about vampires are true." This young human seemed intelligent and also trustworthy. "Many years ago we started those rumors to protect who we really were."
"Uhh, no offense, and please don't take this the wrong way, but they aren't rumors." She said. "I have seen vampires, all walk in the night, grr argh, fangs and bitey and burn in the sunlight, holy water fries em, and crosses burn em, its not rumor" She told the girl. "And my sister kills them." She said almost sad at that because she kind of liked this one.
It was Alice's turn to feel frightened. "She kills vampires? That's awful." Alice was saddened by the news. "But none of my family does any of those things."
"She's a slayer, its part of her destiny" She said. "There's only two I can think of she hasn't, though she kind of did want to one of them."
"Well I sure hope if I ever meet her I make number 3," Alice said humorlessly. "And I don't understand what a 'slayer' is."
"She slays vampires" She explained. "Rids the world of evil demons who walk the earth and harm others and so forth" Caitlen explianed to the woman.
"I've never heard of such a thing," Alice admitted. "And what exactly are you? How did you know I wasn't human?"
"I'm an empath" She said.
"An empath," Alice turned the word over in her mind. "Wait, you can sense other people's feelings?"
"Emotions, feelings, when they are sick, so on so on" She explained. "Basically everything you feel I feel." She said. "So like, if you could feel it, if someone hit you and it hurt I would feel it. Its part of why I am here."
"That must be awful," Alice responded automatically. "I thought it was bad being able to see the future and having family expect you to keep an eye on about three different futures at once, but to feel all that? I don't envy you, that's for sure."
"You see the future too?" Caitlen asked. "Wow" She added as she thought a moment. "Its a pain, literally. I needed a break, a break from the migrane so I came here away from everyone."
"I hope my being here isn't bothering you," Alice offered. "I can leave if my feelings and such are causing any problems"
"You're fine" She said. "You're one person, well one vampire, one very bright vampire" She smirked
"Bright?" Alice asked not having paid attention to the changes in the weather.
She pointed to Alice's skin. "Bright" She said
Looking down Alice noticed the diamond facets reflecting from her skin. "See," she said making a joke of herself. "I don't burn up in the sun, but this is exactly why my family doesn't come out in the sun."
"How do you...do anything?" She asked. "I mean, if you don't eat humans do you work?"
"Carlisle works. He's a doctor actually," she answered. "I'm currently a student at the college. All of the members of my family find jobs or go to school. We travel all across the world as well."
"You sound like Angel and Spike" She said with a smirk. "Only they can't do the shiny thing"
"Angel and Spike? Are those vampires you know?" Alice asked, curious at the way this conversation was going.
"Know of them." She said. "Angel dated a slayer...and well so did Spike" She said as she thought on that. "Though Spike is less broody and more of a fighter."
"I understand completely about broody vampires," Alice commented. "I have a few in my family if they get in the mood to be such. Only the men, though."
"Figures, I think its genetic, you're turned and you must brood" She joked
Alice laughed her tinkling laugh, "I think you might just be right about that." Alice smiled at her. "I've only known one other human that was as open-minded as you, and she’s engaged to my brother."
"Wow, interesting" She said. "Well for me its more like having my brother, mom and dad and sister's fiance killed by a demon by way of bastard ex boyfriend of sister makes you a little less shocked."
Alice looked at the girl, lost for words. "That's terrible," she finally managed to choke out. Carefully she asked, "So what exactly happened? If you don't mind my asking. If you don't want to talk about it, I understand. I don't mean to be nosey."
"Yes you do, but its okay" She said with a small smile. "Basically my sister stupidly dated a guy and he was very controlling and abusive, and having her wasn't enough once he saw me." Caitlen said this as she looked down. "He toyed with us both for a while and when Angelina, thats my sister, when she left him he decided torturing me would get her back, which it did, until she couldn't take it anymore, or maybe Andrew, either way she dumped him like a bad habit and he retaliated by hiring a demon to make her pay. The demon went after Andrew first, killed him right after he asked Angie to marry him, then when it found out what Angie was killed mom dad and Chris, didn't know about Bek and I so I guess you could say we lucked out." She shrugged as she spoke. "After the funeral Angelina packed Bek, me and her up and we moved here to start over...though I think its more to hide because she still hasn't been able to kill David or the Demon."
Alice's head reeled a bit with the overload of information. "Wow," she muttered. "That really is horrible. I can't even find the words to tell you how I feel about that. I wish there was something I could do or say...." she trailed off, not sure what to say.
"Its fine, really" She said "We have time to figure out how to stop David and his minion of darkness before he finds us so that works out."
"Well one thing I can promise you is that myself or any member of my family would be proud to stand beside you and help," Alice offered. "Remember, we're the good guys," she added with a playful smile.
She smiled. "That's nice" She said. "But you don't have to do that."
Alice nodded, "I know I don't." Then she gave a slight shrug, "but I would."
"I can convince my sister to leave you guys alone without you having to do that." She said. "As long as you really don't hurt anyone she will"
Alice zoned out for a moment and then looked at Caitlen. "No, really we will." From the way the story seemed to upset the girl, Alice wasn't about ready to explain that she had just seen that the Cullen family would indeed stand by and help the girl and her family defend against David and his minion.
"I don't get it, what do you mean?" Caitlen asked as she sat up, her eyes locking on to Alice's as she studied the woman.
Alice tried to break eye contact but found Caitlen's stare hard to ignore. "Trust me when I say that we don't have a choice in this and we will help defend your family." Alice waited, worried about the girl's reaction.
Caitlen stood, brushing her pants off and rushing to get her things. "I should get Bek, I need to make sure she's okay since Angie's working." She said now panicked.
Alice stood and carefully put a hand on Caitlen's shoulder. "No worries yet." She gave an attempt at a calming smile. "We have a few weeks before it becomes a problem." With that she tapped a finger to her head. "I get more than just the images, I get timelines."
"I can't rely on that, my sister..she's not normal and if anything scares her others lives are in danger." She said. "I have to go."
Alice looked at the girl concerned. "Taking care of your family should certainly be your first priority. We will have to get in touch again soon." She paused realizing the next step was informing her family they were going to defend a girl created to destroy vampires. "Our families need to meet and talk." Alice whipped out a piece of paper and a pen, quickly wrote down her name and number and offered it to Caitlen.
Caitlen took the paper. "Christienson’s" Caitlen said. "Angie owns it" She said. "You can find us there."
Alice nodded. "We will be there soon. Beyond the bad news that is coming, I'm pleased to have met you, Caitlen," she said sincerely.
Caitlen nodded. "Thanks Alice, nice to meet you too." The girl said as she took off at a brisk walk, but as she did she dropped a book without realizing it
Alice saw the book as it fell from the girl's bag but decided it would be easier to return it to her later. Picking it up she found the book was actually a journal belonging to the girl. She considered the options carefully and decided she would read the information before she returned it. There may be useful information inside.
