It was early afternoon, the turkey was in the oven and had been for the past hour. He'd been woken up at an ungodly hour by a hyperactive Alex, who insisted they open their gifts before the sun even rose. Thankfully he was used to it from his days with the Legion. So now he was seeing what else he'd need to prepare, or rather, what Alex insisted they had and that he always made.
Alex was in the living room of the apartment, playing the video game system Rick had gotten him. The TV was up impossibly loud and there was Christmas music blaring as well. "Alex," Rick called from the kitchen. "Turn on or the other down or off. I can't hear myself think, let alone the door bell." There was no response. "Alex!" He called louder. Still no response. "ALEXANDER JONATHAN O'CONNELL!"
"What?!"
"TURN THAT DOWN!"
"All right, all right, no need to shout, dad." He clicked the radio off so that all was left was his video game music.
Rick sighed. At least it was a small victory. He was getting out some potatoes when the doorbell rang. "Alex, get the door, that'll be Romana."
"Kay!" The boy jumped up and opened the door. "Merry Christmas, Romana! Dad got me a new video game, wanna see, it's really cool!" He didn't really wait for answer before he dragged the poor woman inside
